''Austin Powers'' star Mike Myers is now expected to headline the big-screen live-action version of ''Cat in the Hat.'' Producer Brian Grazer, who got into a rather public catfight with Myers after the actor abandoned the Grazer project ''Dieter,'' denies rumors that Myers' participation is a make-good. Instead, he's focusing on what makes Myers the perfect cat's meow. ''The blend of his irreverence works very well with the Seussian child sensibilities,'' says Grazer, adding that Seuss' widow, Audrey Geisel, approves of Myers' casting. ''Having Mike puts the story on steroids.''
No director has been named for the film, which Grazer hopes to begin shooting this fall for release in summer 2003. (Myer's rep could not be reached for comment.) Replacing Tim Allen -- who exited to work on ''Santa Clause 2'' -- Myers will undergo prosthetic transformations from makeup guru Rick Baker. But unlike Jim Carrey's ''The Grinch,'' the ''Cat'' isn''t kids' stuff. ''I think of him like Bluto, the character [John] Belushi played in 'Animal House,''' Grazer says. ''He took the characters on a ride more intense than anyone expected, and that's what the Cat does.''

I liked Mike Myers humor before it was the same gag in every god damned movie...Austin Powers 2 was a sad pathetic ripoff of the first one <oooh, 3 coming soon!!> Yes, we know you do Scottish characters...great...
I'd just like for once a new movie that has an original plot that isn't a remake of an old movie or tv show or cartoon...

Mr. Bungle,
Mike Myers is/was notorious for stealing other peoples bits and using them. He rarely produces any original ideas, and if it is successful, its sequel is usually awful.
Besides, from firsthand and secondhand experience, he is a MAJOR ASSHOLE.

Mike Meyers is talented.
very talented... he does tend to beat his gimmicks into the ground, but he continues to make tons of money off of them.. so why the hell not?
As far as him being an un-inventive asshole... I say, "No Wayay."

If you folks only knew what I know, you'd be saying the same exact thing.

Just because you're making money doing something doesn't mean you have to be a whore to do it. Like, HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU NEED??? Have some frigging pride in yourself. It's one thing if he only had one hit, then I could possibly see why he'd want to replicate his success...but he's done extremely well with the Wayne's World movies alone...he could challenge himself, try different things after a while...but he'd rather wallow in mediocrity.
Mike Myers-the Metallica of comedy.

Mr. Bungle, I wholeheartedly agree. What happened to artistic integrity and pride? Cash is king and thats how people rate your success these days.

LOL....is that a plus or a negative??
<img src="http://members.aol.com/fajita4me/images/shinebox.jpg"height=101 width=300>
I think its a negative (Remember the Napster debacle?)
Jackie Sloan, there have been several articles over the years alluding to the fact that Mike has stolen stuff from other comics, and he is a major prick to work with. I have friends that work at SNL and its really no secret that he's a complete asshole. Chris Kattan also falls along these same lines, except he has no talent whatsoever.

Sad but true...it's not that you shouldn't make money, but damn, if you've made a ton of money, why whore yourself for more? Paul McCartney has enough money to build a home from the stacks, but he still charges $150 a ticket to see his elderly ass "rock". That's fucking wrong!
People like this are why the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor...GREED. How much more do these fucks want to die with? Take a frigging chance dammit!
Now as for the Metallica comparison, it is a very negative comment. Metallica was going quadruple platinum with no radio or video, making millions and doiing shit for their fans...but then their fans weren't good enough, they needed Tom Petty's fans too, they needed to be loved by everyone. Love to them means money...they put out some ballads, they hit, so they figure they should do more...
I know it's easy to tell other people not to make money, but all I know is if I made a ton of cash <enough where I could live very comfortably>, you'd never hear anything melodic out of me again probably! As long as I was proud of what I put out, that's all that would matter.

Mr Bungle, I totally agree.
The problem with being a star these days is the cost of being a star. You have to pay for publicists, security, agents, managers, etc.. These expenses really add up. Also, being scrutinized by the press constantly and having paparazzi following your every move is not exactly "the good life". Being a star takes a lot of money, and I can see why some of them sell out and work for Disney or some schlock studio that cranks out braindrain dramedys.
That is, of course, if you want to continue to be a star. But if you make 4 or 5 big movies, what's wrong with taking your cash and living the rest of your life in obscurity? You really don't need 20 gazillion dollars to live on, unless you have an expensive drug habit or some whorebag ex-wife that got half yo' shit in the divorce.

Chet, fess up with a little more detail than you've given about him stealing things.
I see that no one actually cares they're making another Dr. Seuss film after that shitfest that was The Grinch Who Stole Xmas...
And the fact that Tim Allen left the project to do THE SANTA CLAUSE 2.
Please, please, please shoot me.
