There was a post that got locked because a board member made derogatory comments about Clare based on her recent appearance in the studio. Regardless of my thoughts on the actual comments, I do have a question. If a member of this board agrees to be a guest of Ron and Fez, are we as board members allowed to comment on that person's "performance" on the show? I certainly don't mean personal attacks and nasty statements (sorry, but telling someone to slice their wrists is way over the line). But if someone does things as a guest on the show that you want to comment on, is that allowed?

My point is by allowing yourself to go on the radio, what you do with that opportunity should be fair game for the board to discuss. I hope the mods won't start locking threads if a board member gets negative feedback from an appearance on the show. As long as the discussion does not veer toward personal attacks and assanine comments, a free-form discussion of how a person fared on the show should be acceptable, even if that person is a board member.

If possible, I'd like to know how people who have been invited up to the studio feel about this issue. Would you have a problem with board members reacting to what you did on the show, even if the reaction is not positive?

This has been my Pud-atorial. Thank you.

I agree in theory that if a board member goes on the air, they should be open to negative criticism. However, there is a VERY fine line between harmless criticism on performance and personal attacks. Further, the way the person being criticized takes the criticism may not be the same as the way the person giving criticism intended it.

So, while I agree with you in theory, our policy as moderators is to err on the side of caution and lock threads that are touching that fine line. That's why the thread was 'locked' as opposed to 'deleted': the moderator didn't want it to go any farther...

But if someone does things as a guest on the show that you want to comment on, is that allowed? As long as your kissing their ass.

This is a subject I have always had a problem with. Any negative feedback is always deleted and yes, IMO if you put yourself out there you should be able to take the bad with the good. But for some reason you can talk all the shit about Billy and AL that you want but you can't say bad things about females. That's a big NO NO. I understand the mods don't want to hurt peoples feeling and they want the board to be kiss ass happy land but you are only allowed to express your opinion if its positive? If you think you are protecting the board from destroying itself by doing this, it's going to happen regardless of whether you delete everything or not. You can't stop it. If people were to say negative things about me I would not want it to be deleted only because I have been on the show and anything I have done would be fair game to tool on. I don't want someone else picking and choosing what can and can't be said about me.

I am not saying I encourage negativity, but I am saying that when people express their opinions why can't you just let them discuss their issues like adults and work it out on their own? Instead everything is swept under the rug as if it never happened. Sometimes I feel like a child here. We have to be protected from all the evil people in the world. But I have learned that this is a losing battle and only if your name is Impactplayer can you bad mouth someone and get away with it :)

You've got to understand that these people are human and not characters. They have feelings. Has everyone forgotten the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all"? If you want to comment on something someone said, or did and can discuss it in a civilized matter then you have every right to. For example, There was a thread a new board member start saying that Gaia and Knocked were lying about getting hit with the head gear that Al threw at the Big Ass Night of Fights 1. That they used this excuse to get into studio. Right away people started to attack and threaten this person. What if that board member really thought that they weren't the ones that got hit? Why was that member being attacked? Why couldn't the people that did reply calmly explain that they were the people that got hit, and not throw out the "F" word and say they were going to "get" him? Yes, this is just 1 example but unfortunately some people don't know how to react to criticism, and eventually all negative posts will turn into "F" you I'm gonna come get you posts.

The fact also is that we are very protective of the female members. I wont lie to you that if someone is being mean or negative to a female member then I will personally take care of the situation. Me and I'm sure mostly every other board member doesn't want this board to become a sausage festival (with the exception of Big Jim :) ) So yes female members are protected more then others, not because we don't think you can handle yourself but because we want you all to feel comfortable here.

As for being able to criticize Al and Billy and other show members is basically because they are a part of the Ron and Fez show and that is what this board is for. To talk about the Ron and Fez show. If the show pokes fun at something Al, Billy, or whoever then we can comment and add to the fun of it. I agree that some people go to far when they start saying they hate Al or they hate Billy when all they know of them is what happens on air. But if Billy gets drunk and starts making an ass of himself on air then you can come here and have fun with it. The same would go for any paid member of the show. They are supposed to get a raise from the audience.

As far as Impactplayer, he is not aloud to bad mouth anyone at free will, and if you don't believe me you can ask him because I personally have warned him about his behavior.

PanterA, I don't agree. If you allow yourself to be on the radio, then you've become, for that period of time, a part of the show. By accepting the opportunity to appear on the radio, we as board members and listeners should be allowed to voice opinions, both positive and negative, about how that person presented themselves on the show. I'm sure if Steven Baldwin came up to the studio, a post relating to his appearance would be acceptable (so long as the responses were in good taste and not mindless hate-filled diatribes).

For instance, what if board member John Doe is in the studio and put on the air. If Jane Doe proceeds to provoke responses in the listeners (good or bad), this board should be willing to let those opinions be heard. Jane Doe was allowed her moment in the sun. We should be allowed to express our opinions on how we feel.

As always, the hope is maturity and respect will be used by those who choose to offer their views on individuals who appear on the show.

And as far as I know, Jane Doe is NOT a board member and has not appeared on the show. I'm sure if she did, she'd be terrific, and she might even make out with Melissa.

If you allow yourself to be on the radio, then you've become, for that period of time, a part of the showBut when did they not become human beings? No matter who they are they have feelings.

Plus never once did i say that you cant express your feelings, positive or negative about anyone on or appears on the show. All i said was, unfortunatly most people dont know how to handle negative feedback. It always results in anger and insults.

Our goal as moderators of this board is to keep us close as friends and to feel comfortable with each other. Because once we start to allow fighting and nit picking there wont be a board.

We are here to have fun not to insult and fight. As long as i'm here and i know the other MODS feel the same, we will do everything in our power to keep peace on the board. And if it comes down to deleting threads, locking threads, and banning the offensive board members then so be it.

But when did they not become human beings? No matter who they are they have feelings.

That's exactly why those who wish to express an opinion should use decorum and not a bunch of mindless "you're a moron" comments.

All i said was, unfortunatly most people dont know how to handle negative feedback. It always results in anger and insults.

Understood. But as the old saying goes, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

With all this being said, I think the large majority of feedback toward board members appearing on the show is positive. However, I think it's important to allow less enthusiatic feedback to be voiced. What if someone appearing on the show makes comments that are insensitive to other board members? Shouldn't those people be allowed to express their displeasure? Also, what if a guest just didn't add anything to, perhaps even detracts from, the show that night? Isn't it fair to allow us to say "Hey, yo, what the hell was that tonight"?

I'm really annoyed when a thread that's allowing for some interesting discussion has to get locked because a few people needed to turn it into a personal attack on someone else. Can't we just delete offensive threads instead of locking up the whole discussion?

BTW, PanterA, you always suck the life out of the show whenever you're on. (Oops, that's the end of THIS thread). ;)

I've only been on this message board for a few weeks but I have to say that it is discussions such as these that make me want to shut off the computer and do something else. Look, everyone who's on the board are muture enough to take things with a grain of salt. If your not, well then stop reading! I cant believe that this board which is an extension of the show, even considers censonship. This coming from a show that along with O&A tell people who are bothered by things they say to piss off and change the channel. It's crazy. I am going to write whatever I f'ing feel like writing and I dont care who is reading it...With that I'll say, EDDIE TRUNK IS A BITCH!

Seriously, there should be no stoping of threads or screening of posts. People need to take this forum less to heart and realize that its just bullshit. Not permitting "bad" posts against the ladies is just retarded...who fucking cares if someone says something nasty against Clair. I'm sure even she is secure enough in herself to realize it dont mean shit.

PanterA, you always suck the life out of the show whenever you're on.At least I was able to get on! NAH NAH NA NAH NAH!! : - _

Science:

everyone who's on the board are muture enough to take things with a grain of salt.I could only wish that were true.

I cant believe that this board which is an extension of the show, even considers censonshipThis board is privatly owned by NON members of the show and are in no way affliated with the show itself except for the fact that we are all fans of the Ron and Fez show. With that being said we have the right to censor anything said or used on this board. You agreed to that when you signed up as a member.

I am going to write whatever I f'ing feel like writing and I don't care who is reading itWe allow our members to express there feelings and encourage them to do so, but if you break the rules of the board that you agreed to follow when you became a member, and are listed in the FAQs section of the board then we have every right to take action.

Listen I don't want to come off as a hard ass, but these rules have been put in place to protect 1) The members of this board and 2) the life of the board. The rules aren't very hard to follow and we're not trying to put choke chains around everyone. We simply want to keep this board a fun place where anyone and everyone can come and discuss the Ron and Fez show and EVERYTHING else they feel like talking about, without the worry of being ridiculed and judged.

Lets all just have some fuckin fun!

I agree with Dan and Pantera wholeheartedly. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. I've attempted to explain this on several occasions, but for some reason some members just don't seem to understand.

I've been in studio several times, and if someone posted "Gvac, you really didn't add much to the show the other night", I'd have no problem with it. If someone posted "Gvac is a scum sucking son of a bitch", I'd take offense.

It's all about diplomacy and taking the feelings of other people into account.

This board really has only 2 rules in my eyes, be more funny and don't be a fucking asshole.

i feel like these threads are a waste of time sometimes, because the 95% of the people on this board who are cool are always cool. the people who stink always stink, and none of this explaning does anygood.

to sum this up, the people who are cool always stay cool, but there's always idiots trying to ruin it. they should either get banned or we have to deal with it, cause it's obvious you cannot reason with mental retards.

What exactely are you asking for? The right to make fun of people? Don't you have enough of that in your own life?

I've said it in Staff Room and now I'll say it here. Where other message boards are "Hedonism", this message board is "Disney Land".

That's it. If you feel your life is incomplete because we don't allow you to bash someone on the air, then seek therapy.

However, if you have a VALID point about someone on the air, we love to hear it, as evident in the Billy Staples and Al threads we've been allowing for the past two weeks.

To address that post specifically, Claire is a good person, and unless she personaly took a shit on your mother's face, I don't see how anyone could have a problem with her.

It's ok to have a negative criticism about someone. If some one said, "Jon you completely and utterly sucked on the show," that's fine, it's your opinion. In fact, tell me why I sucked. The problem is that too much of the negative criticism is just a personal attack on someone you don't know. And that's what we won't tolerate.

Now that I'm apparently asshole number 1, I'm gonna clarifying why I posted this. Clare was rudely attacked by someone on the board based on her appearance last Friday. However, it got me thinking about when it's OK to voice opinions about message board members who appear on the show.

What if, for instance, someone said the following:

Clare, I was bothered by you joining in to gang up on Al Dukes this past Friday. I don't know your history with him, but it seemed like you were attacking him when he was down, and it appeared to be unfair and unjustified from you.

I would like to know if this comment is inappropriate. And for the record, this is NOT MY OPINION! It is a re-wording of what another person was insinuating in their post, thought I have nothing positive to say about how that person said it.

There's been so much discussion on the show about the board and what gets said here. We pick on Al and Billy constantly, and use the excuse that since they're on the show, they are fair game. I wondered what the board rules are for ronfez.net members who get to be on the show.

Maybe I'm being too defensive here, but I feel like people are responding as if I'm some asshole who wants to start trouble. Look back at any post I've ever made and point out the times I've ripped anyone on this board. It happened once, and I apologized for it (and it was based on a very messed-up set of circumstances). I don't think I have this history of being a mean poster. Maybe you all interpret me differently. But I just wanted to start what I felt was a thoughtful discussion. If I was wrong, then I'm sorry, and I'll be much more careful about starting a new discussion or posting a "controversial" opinion.

Hey Silly Puddy, nobody said you were an asshole or that you are being singled out as someone that says negative things about people.

But you thinking that just proves my arguement. You see, you thought we were all against you when we were simply answering your questions. That's why we delete or lock most negative thread about board members, because you cant tell when it goes from a discussion to bad mouthing.

You're not being singled out, and this subject has crossed the minds of many if not all the members. I think you, and everyone that replied (except the hair growing guy) has actually went about this as a civilized adult debate. Unlike last time when something like this came up....it resulted in 2 bannings. I'm shocked...can this be a sign of good things to come?

As for trying to control the negativity on the board, this is great in theory but infortunately even if it's kept from being posted the negative feelings are still there behind the scenes. In IMs and emails.

And unfortunately due to the immaturity of some people it's merely impossible to have a mature discussion. You can make one negative remark about a post and that person will immediately take it as a personal attack and become defensive. In the end it's just best to not say anything at all . It'snot worth fighting a losing battle. You can word it as eloquently as you want but if someone cannot take a simple critism then you end up looking like the bad guy

If Joe Shmoe the board member I.M.s Jack Frack the board member and calls them a piece of shit, then that's between Joe Shmoe and Jack Frack. Now if Jack Frack goes and posts how he thinks Joe Shmoe is a cock sucking ass licker cause Joe I.M.ed him calling him a piece of shit, well then Jack Frack has just broken a rule of the message board and will be punished accordingly.

I know hun. I'm just saying that even though it's kept off the board the negativity and tension is still there. People talk and this one knows why that one doesn't like the other one so even if posts are deleted, locked or whatever people still hear about it.

It would be silly to think that 6000 people could get along. That's why we as MODs act as the bouncers. You can't fight in my bar, but as soon as you leave you can go a rip each others heads off.

I believe this if your on the show you are game for criticism, but there is a line of being judegemental on performance and being an ass. You should not ever get personal do to the fact there is no reason to if you have a problem tough shit. There are to many people on this board that are here to have fun and last thing we need is one person to be an ass and hurt someones feelings, I agree with a saying that if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all. And also if you have a problem with someone on the board not doing the job that you set standards for them to do. Then do what the professional DJ's have always said, change the station and don't listen cause there are others of us who would be here to encourage and support each other and if you dont like it then dont listen.

Ivy, if you care, here's what Jeff wrote....

What exactely are you asking for? The right to make fun of people? Don't you have enough of that in your own life?

....

If you feel your life is incomplete because we don't allow you to bash someone on the air, then seek therapy.

And this was friendly discussion? Or is this just a "negative remark"? THIS is why I got annoyed and defensive. I can take reasonable criticism, but Jeff was trying to make me look like a buffoon in need of Ritalin. The only reason I didn't single out Jeff in my "defensive" post was to avoid a personal conflict.

Other board members like fatty and gvac posted opinions contrary to mine, and that's great. They didn't make some comment about me being in need of therapy. And I personally really enjoyed the back-and-forth I had with PanterA, and I am the first person to compliment him on how intelligent and thoughtful he was in his point of view.
Unless I missed some humor or sarcasm, I think I have a reasonable justification for taking Jeff's post as more than a "negative remark". I'd like to think any criticism I have about a board member would be handled in a more mature way than that.

[It's not what you say, it's how you say it.]

But when you're on a piece of machinery miles away from each other.....how exactly can you tell how someone said it? When you read a sentence, it doesn't always have personality behind it, so it's left to the reader's interpretation. At this point the reader should use common sense to discover that this is all in fun. This is just something fans of the show do for fun. This is not our lives. People who leave revolting posts are just trying to get a rise out of others or make people laugh. There's quite a simple way to deal with them......blow them off. You don't give them the time of day and you make yourself look good while they look like the jackasses they are.

It was negative criticism, and read what I wrote.

If you NEED that, then you should seek therapy. I didn't say Silly Puddy, go to a therapist now.

I don't even know why this thread was even posted, but I'm locking it, cause you're not saying or asking anything new.
