Okay...mine's a bit obscure. It was during the really shitty recent years of SNL, with Mark McKinney and such. Davin Allen Grier was hosting.

They did a sketch about a morning talk show where the teleprompter goes out. The situation quickly turns into a "Lord of the Flies"-esque situation, wotj David Allen Grier, the weatherman, eventually challenging shirtless Will Farrell's, the host, dominance, leading to Will Farrell chewing Grier's head off and displaying it victoriously for all to see. I can't do it justice, but it was quite possibly the funniest sketch ever.

Also, any of the short films by Adam McKay that have been popping up recently: "The Baby and the German Intellectual" and the one where Ben Stiller sleeps with Glen Fry of the Eagles on a dare.

One of my favorite skits is when they used to have Dog Show. There's this one where they ask Will Ferrel if he's gay and he says "Maybe I am, and maybe I am!" That cracks me up everytime. Will Ferrel is one funny motherfucker.

Another favorite is Eddie Murphy as James Brown singing about the hot tub. Or when he's Jesse Jackson singing about Hymietown.

Hey, I may be a young'n, but I can go back as far as the best of 'em. It just so happens the Tim Kazurinsky years weren't that funny. I mean, how many times could they have him marrying a monkey and it being funny? Oh wait, what am I saying? Monkeys be funny.

Dan Akroyd selling "Bag o' Glass", "Johnny Flame" (complete with gasoline soaked rags) and "Invisible Man" (completely black outfit to be worn at night while trick-or-treating in the street) was always hysterical. "Samurai Night Fever" was the best of the Samurai sketches, and the best Landshark is when Landshark got in simply by saying he was Landshark.

Eddie Murphy as a white guy for a day, very funny. As was Christopher Guest and Billy Crystal's "Don't ya hate that" (I think that was the phrase) sketch, which basically consisted of them discussing different masochistic acts they performed on themselves which they wished they didn't, such as slamming their testicles in a waffle iron repeatedly.

Then we moved on and picked up Jan Hooks and Nora Dunn, two of the most annoying women on earth, who made their careers playing annoying women (the lounge act, which was quite possibly the worst musical endeavor that SNL made, the Lifetime talkshow hosts, etc.), but with them came the second set of SNL's golden years, the Hartman/Myers/Carvey years, followed shortly by Sandler/Spade/Farley and friends.

Today's incarnation is good shit, in my opinion. Will Farrell and Chris Katann are two very, very funny gentlemen.

My question would be...what's your favorite SNL moment when they broke character?

Mine's a tie between the Joe Piscopo sketch "Crazy Eddie's Whorehouse" where Eddie Murphy decided he didn't want to play the character anymore and pretty much yelled near-obscenities from offscreen and threw shaving cream and grapes at Joe Piscopo's head while he tried to continue.

The other, the classic Gap Girls moment where Adam Sandler tries to take a fry from Chris Farley's character, at which point Farley says, in the deepest, manliest voice he can muster, "LAY OFF SISTER I'M STARVING", which causes them all to burst out in laughter. (Farley had another one of these in the Pepper sketch. "THAT'S THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF PEPPER! THANK YOU!") Horatio Sans is doing this a lot nowadays.

Alright, as you can see I was bored. I'm done.

My favorite is a black and white short film in which an elderly John Belushi reminisces about the other cast members. It ends with Belushi tap dancing on Chevy Chase's - I think it was his-grave.

I also liked the diner one in which Jane Curtin tries to order a cup of tea. Belushi keeps saying "No tea. Pepsi." Curtin doesn't want Pepsi, it's eight o'clock in the morning, and she wants tea. The argument escalates, and just as Curtin gives up and says "fine!" and orders a Pepsi, the camera cuts to Belushi, who is gently and carefully dunking a tea bag in a tea cup.

Heckler, the punchline of that skit was that the kids in the family were born without saliva. The parents had to chew the food up and moisten it with their saliva and then spit it into the kids mouths.

You have to go with the original cast, I think, when you consider any of the best material. The show now goes for a younger demo than it did in the 70's (and even with the Carvey/Hartman/ Lovitz cast) plus the writing is weak. I hate to repeat, but Nick the lounge singer was probably my favorite too. John Belushi and Aykroyd were great in most of what they did as well. I have 2 unmentioned favorites from 1984:1) the 60 Minutes parody on novelty joke items ( with Martin Short's Nathan Thurm) and 2) Synchronized swimming with Martin Short and Harry Shearer ( Sorry, LT Rooster, you did mention it.Never mind).

the old smuckers commercial...with a name like smuckers, it has to be good jelly. with a name like painful rectal itch, it has to be good jelly every eddie murphy buckwheat sketch anything with christopher walken anytime in celebrity jeopardy sean connery and trabek interacted anytime chris farley fell or freaked out when norm mac donald said that the worse job last year was crack hoar and was beat out this year by assistant to crack hoar ...and that's what the germans would have you believe every will ferrel character <P>

i got a fever, and the only medicine is more cowbell. great skit.

celebrity jeopardy is always good also.

the skit where the family always ends up screaming at each other, and will ferrel(the dad) starts yelling "I DRIVE A (i forgot what car)" over and over again. "YOU DONT TALK TO ME THAT WAY!"

great stuff.

Oh yeah -- John Belushi as Don Corleone undergoing group therapy with Lorraine Newman, Billy Crystal as "Fernando" with Hulk Hogan and Mr. T., Nora Dunn and Jan Hooks as The Sweeney Sisters, William Shatner's "Get A Life" episode.

I like celebrity Jeapordy, and the James Lipton sketches.
My favorite is when they had Cameron Diaz on their and their was some kid train show and they each had a letter on their shirt, U for unity, C for caring K for kindness. then will farrel came on with F for friendness. lmao. and they would dance and sing and whenever they would go to line up in F-U-C-K formation they would go to "technical difficulties. lmao. i guess you had to see it. thats my favorite one.
