King, I have a hypothetical question for you....

Suppose someone claimed to be freinds with you, but all the while was collecting conversations and various material from you that could potentially be used against you....

If that person subsequently fights with you, and breaks off the freindship, threatening to use those conversations or other material aginst you, can it be assumed that that person was never really your friend to begin with, mostly because the information was gathered while that person professed to be your freind and everything was hunky-dory.....

Again, this is purely hypothetical, and has nothing to do with anyone. It kind of came to me in a dream, but I wanted your opinion on it. Thanks...

In my opinion, if this person was collecting conversations (I'm assuming you mean AIM convos, emails or taping phone calls), the whole time he/she was "friends" with you, then they were never really your "friend" in the first place. If someone was your friend, why would they be recording all your convos to use against you later? They're pulling a "Linda Trip". Better off not being friends with the person anymore.

definately not a frind and usually when it is done like that it was allready the original plan to get close to you find out the info and use that info against yo or for leads....I use to do taht when I did investigation work...its not a friend its a simple process of a well planned and organized plan to do that, it takes a while as you first find the person to find this info from and then you haveto get close to them..its not that hard really but it happnes alot ...god i miss my old job

People say things they don't mean when they're angry. I know when I'm mad I can be real childish...doesn't make anyone any less of a friend or a bad person, it makes us human

I'm far from perfect. When I get pissed I say awful things. When someone hurts me I lash out. If I regret it later I admit I was wrong, apologize and move on.

Have I hurt a friend? Yes. Do I save IM convos, or emails, or phone conversations I have with my real friends? Nope. The thought would never cross my mind. I always keep confidence with my true friends.

Hey Jerry ... I am so sorry to hear about your misfortune in the friendship department! :-(

I find it so hard to trust people in life and on this board. I don't know if this person you are talking about is on this board! There are 3 people on this board who I completely trust, and you are one of them! I am not dissing the other people on this board ... it's just that I don't talk to most of the people the way I talk to you and the other two! So far, I like everyone on this board, and have not had serious trouble with anyone! KNOCK ON WOOD! LOL

Does everyone consider IM conversations as intimate and confidential as an in-person or phone conversation? I do. Also, IM chat logs can be easily altered, so I never belive it when someone emails or posts an AIM convo, because how do i know its not editeD?

well i wil lsay in real life i do get hurt that is why it sucks i walk away sometimes i do lash out but i think its better to walk away, number 2 i agree its not right to take ims,emails,chat rooms and phone conversations as a means to screw someone over.

the others are right about the im logs.. and i may also add, that most of us say aweful things in the heat of the moment, not days later.. by then... you should have your head straight...

My best friend and I have alomst never said hurtful things to each other. Since we're such good friends, it would hurt me to hurt her. We've been friends for almost 10 years and only have been in one fight!

most of us say aweful things in the heat of the moment, not days later.. by then... you should have your head straight...

Very very true inky! If i get in a fight with someone I care about becuase I'm drunk or angry, the next day I always try to make things better, not the next week.

JERRY - It's very hard to say what the original intent of the person was. Perhaps they save every IM. Perhaps they saved it b/c they thought it would be good to keep conversations of a friend. On the other hand this person could have had malicious intentions all along.

It's really impossible to speak for someone's motivation without talking to them.

Needless to say it's awful of the person to threaten you with prior conversations, especially since they can be edited and or taken out of context.

You say this is hypothetical and I hope that it is. If not, please do not use this forum to attack anyone else.
