Ok so check this shit out....

TRENTON - Supporters of New Jersey's 50-year ban on self- service gas
stations introduced legislation Monday to strengthen the ban.

The prohibition makes New Jersey "unique but better" than other states,
said Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew, D-Salem/Cape May, a co-sponsor of a
bill that cites arguments to support the ban.

State Sen. Gerald Cardinal, R-Bergen, has unsuccessfully tried to repeal
the state's ban on self-service three times.

"Not every person every day is going to want to get out of their vehicle and
pump their own gas," Van Drew said. "People do not want this. If there
was a will and people wanted it, I'd be behind it."

New Jersey and Oregon are the only states to outlaw unmanned pumps.

Flanked by senior citizens and disabilities advocates at a news
conference, Van Drew said allowing drivers to pump their own gas would
pose a hardship to those physically unable. The prohibition also ensures
safety and preserves up to 20,000 industry jobs, he added.

I can't believe this dip shit mother fucker... the new york, new jersey area lost a ton of jobs due to Sept 11 and now this moron State Sen. Gerald Cardinal, R-Bergen wants to make nj a self service state... yeah so lets put another 20,000 people out of work.. what kind of shit is that.. who is giving him campaigne(sp) money.. these are jobs that go to a wide variety of people from HS and college students to the retired... also this helps keep the price of gas lower than in most other states.. $1.26 in other states and $1.14 in nj.... start pounding this morons website if he has one and find his phone number and complain.. for more on this story go here.. hope this works.

Well, I am in favor of people keeping jobs, but I wonder how many of those gas attendant jobs are being staffed by people in favor of the terrorist attacks if not a part of them.

But I will GLADLY pump my own gas if in trade it means I can buy beer at the MobilMart.

irish, here's the rest of the article, that i think is pretty relavent against your points...

Much of the debate hinges on economics.

If self-service were allowed in New Jersey, Van Drew argues that full-service would become more expensive - and rare.

"It sounds good on first blush. Everyone likes having an option. But the full-service price increases, so it doesn't become an option any more," Van Drew said. "Look at other states around us. State after state doesn't even offer full-service anymore."

Nationally, unleaded regular averaged $1.26 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association's online Fuel Gauge Report.

In New Jersey unleaded regular averages $1.14 per gallon, according to the report. New Jersey also has the fourth lowest gas tax in the nation, partly contributing to the lower cost.

Van Drew said full-service costs an extra 10 to 20 cents per gallon in states that allow self-pumping.

But industry advocates denied that allowing self-service would spike full- service prices.

"New Jersey's prohibition on self- service has hidden the fact that the cost of labor is 5 to 7 cents of each gallon," said Jim Benton of the New Jersey Petroleum Council. "The marketplace would in fact be the regulation and the prices would make themselves transparent to the motoring public."

Benton said New Jersey gas stations on average employ less people than those in other states. He said it is one of the most competitive gas markets in the nation, making price wars inevitable.

But Benton said there are no guarantees.

"It's difficult to predict whether an individual marketplace will allow for the price to go down," he said, adding the industry would not likely agree to price regulations. "No one can make guarantees."

Advocates for senior citizens and the disabled contend lifting the state's regulations would adversely impact a "vulnerable population."

"It would be a big change in that I have asthma, I don't want to smell all those fumes," said Lorraine D'Agostino of Ocean City who often travels to Pennsylvania to visit family. "I think it would be terrible if New Jersey did wrong one of the few things they've done right."

D'Agostino said she often needs to wait until she returns to New Jersey to fill her gas tank because many Pennsylvania stations don't offer full- service gas pumps.

The federal Americans with Disabilities Act exempts stations with only one attendant from its mandate to provide full-service for the elderly and disabled, according to Van Drew.

And skidmark, while i appreciate your humor about gas station attendants being primarily arab, it's kind of lost in a cloud of racism, whether intended or not, when a gas station owner was set on fire and another shot after September 11th...so joking about that is the same as doing so about 9/11, and both are pretty fucked up and disgusting.

damn...is it me or isnt clare just so damn sexy when shes pissed.......
but seriously i am for people keeping there jobs but in this day and age when computers are replacing humans its not right some people might think this probably isnt a big deal but it is for example....some banks now charge you to use a human teller instead of a atm, some department stores now have a security guard to check your reciept becasue they dont use cashiers anymore, some hotels dont even have desk clerks but an automated kiosk machine to check in and check out, the toll booths have gotten rid of the exact change bucket and many toll employees for the eezpass system, every where you look companies little or small are looking for a way to get rid of people so they dont haveto pay the expense of paying salaries and its not fair, is it a big deal if i pump my gas myself or have someone do it no...is it a big deal for me to see more people out of work....yes

the epitome of masculinity (yeah right)

I triple ditto that.
All these other states that are self service, their gas prices are higher then NJ. It really makes no sence but hell leave it full service if it will stay cheaper. I wouldn't mind getting out of the car if it was cheaper.
