i know this has been posted before but i can't fuckin sleep...at all...my wish would be 6 hours but most times i'm lucky with 3...so my question is...aside from booze, pills and sex...which never lasts...is there a fricken way to sleep soundly for more than 2 hours?...any suggestions would be soooo welcomed...and secondly how many hours do you guys get regularly?

i average 6 to 7 hours...
Sorry, don't have any cures...
I would say just concentrate on learning to relax your mind or lie in bed and read a book, something you may be interested in...
maybe a nice hot bath or shower right before bed?

In vino veritas

There's a place in the world for the angry young man With his working class ties and his radical plansHe refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,He's always at home with his back to the wall. And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross-And he likes to be knowns as the angry young man.

Here's a few things you can do to get a good night's sleep:

1) Establish a consistent bedtime routine. This is the most important factor in maintaining good sleeping habits. Routines may include taking a warm bath, a relaxing walk in the evening, or meditation/relaxation exercises.
2) Try to go to bed at the same time every night, and get up at the same time each morning (including weekends).
3) Get plenty of exercise during the day.
4) Reduce your intake of caffeine. Limit alcohol. Both, even when consumed early in the day, can affect sleep.
5) Use your bed only for sleeping and sex. Don't use it to do work or watch TV.
6) Avoid large meals late in the evening.
7) If you can't fall asleep within 30 mins. of going to bed, get up and read or do something calming until you feel sleepy.
8) Avoid watching late night TV shows that have you laughing. Nature shows always put me to sleep.
9) Learn a relaxation technique - breathing exercises are amazing.
10) Make sure the temperature in your bedroom is comfortable.
11) Keep the bedroom dark by using blinds or wearing an eye mask if needed.
12) Take a hot bath before bedtime.
13) Try Valerian root (the drops work best). Clinically proven.
14) Calcium and magnesium - These two minerals are essential for relaxation.

Good luck.

Aside From Sex, Drugs, and Booze

I don't know if Xanax is the type of drug you were talking about.... but they really do work....I was the same way as you when it comes to sleeping and i know how frustrating it is... My suggestion would be go to your doctor, tell him b/c of anxiety your having difficulty sleeping and ask him about a prescription for Xanax....all the other sleep meds do shit... but the Xanax is great...you fall asleep watching TV, wake up 8 hours later without the slightest hint of a hangover or any sort of grogginess... It sounds like you really have a problem so reguardless i would seek medical attention...

They're right, Valerian root works well. I was also gonna tell you about Nite Nite, they're herbal sleeping pills that really do work. Valerian root is one of the ingredients, among others. They worked great for me when I needed them, try them. Good luck.

That's a clean burnin' Hell boy tell ya what!

Consult your internist about possible physical causes for your insomnia.

Insomnia can also be caused by depression (paradoxically so can constant sleep).

Rule out medical causes first, then cut the caffeine, and go to bed the same time every night.

Many people find it very helpful to read for 15 minutes or so after lying down.

Finally, avoid a HOT bath or shower as they can actually refresh you and keep you awake. Use WARM water instead.

Dr. Viktor Frankl talks about hyper-intention. We try so hard to do something that we come up with the exact opposite result. Try to stay up. See how that works out for you.

We live in the present, we dream of the future and we learn eternal truths from the past.

I struggle with sleep myself...Valerian Root helps somewhat...Do you exercise? Have you seen "Fight Club"? The Doctor recommends: chewing Valerian Root and plenty of exercise...Maybe take an aerobics class or start attending testicular cancer meetings. It seemed to work for Ed Norton's character. And he said "Baby's don't sleep this good."......Until that awful Marla Singer showed up and ruined everything...Anyhoo....Good luck....

Batch, sex, batch, sex, then batch...that always works for me. I sleep just fine. But I never eat the crust out of my eyes.

I'm surprised horde king didn't mention this... but it sounds to me like you have something on your mind.

Last week I had some things on my mind that was frustrating and depressing me and I had a lot of trouble sleeping.
Perhaps something is bugging you, maybe something you didn't even realize that was bothering you.

TLM is correct that a particular gnawing problem or frustration can interefere with sleep patterns.

However, I interpret the tone of SATINDOLL'S question as impliying a long-term insomnia problem, as booze, sex and pills have already been tried and deemed not to work.
