Technically the Rangers still have a chance of making the playoofs but they have to depend on Montreal to lose. In my opinion, any team that needs another team to lose to get in doesn't deserve to get in. Ron Low is getting fired.....all those trades and they STILL couldn't make the playoffs. And all Milbury had to do was sign Peca and Yashin...lol

Devils rule nothing. what are they in, 7th place? From first last year? Pffffffft they aren't going anywhere this year

Yeah, they did....great...and will we make the playoffs? Probably not...and do I care? Nope. I knew from the moment the season began...sure, I had hope, but the Lindros deal alone told me we weren't going anywhere...best hope we have is to build around Pavel and hope he wants to stick around after 2 years...

well they can't finish 1st every year like they did the last 2. well maybe they can finish the same every year, the rangers finish w/o making the playoffs every year.

the devils are just hitting their stride. i bet they finish ahead of the islanders

It has been a long time for me to wait for this. Although one thing you should know all Rangers fans is that the Isles almost always beat the Rangers. Whether it be in the regular season or the playoffs, the Isles almost always beat the Rangers. It just turned out that the Isles were going through some bad years (who doesnt forget that John Spano incident, "I have a million doolars"), and the Rangers had to steal the show with all the big names...But in spite of all the big names; Gretzky, Kamensky, Fleury, and now Bure; they still come up short...is it possible that 1994 will become a popular chant??

Ivy, I was reading some doushe in my local paper and he was saying that Millbury did nothing for the Isles at the trading deadline...and you hit the nail on the head. All he had to do was sign Yashin and Peca, he had built the core of a good team through drafts and trades here and there before. Just needed those big names that PRODUCE...Godspeed Islanders, Godspeed!!

The devils SHOULD scare all of the east teams with their playoff record and the way Brod plays in the big games. With the exception of the Avalanche series!! Yah Roy! Obviously I like the Avs and went to game seven, yet I follow hockey as a whole and play.

I love the fact that the stRangers to the playoffs are probably out again and the Habs get the pass. They played all year without their captain Koivu and he may be back for the playoffs. Good to see them back without buying the league. And as for building around Bure, your nuts. Look at the comments and shit that went down in FL. He plays defense like a fucking matador, and cherry picks for 90% of his shifts. Great pickup for a team who gives up 30+ more goals than they score and they do score a lot. This with the likes of Richter in net! Oh yah, when was the last time Leetch played D? Their GM is a moron as Odelein and Kasparitus were available and they should have spent the money there. And giving up York? With their current rooster, is there any young talent that they actually developed as opposed to bought?! What is done in baseball can't be done in a true sport, not monopoly, like hockey! In hockey you need heart, grit, toughness and a soul. Much of this is lacking with the NYR squad, espically when Mess went down! True Ranger fans agree, and would love to have Novak, York and Hlavac back with Lindros, Fleury, and Bure gone.

As for the Isle, they did the right thing by not giving up youth at the trade deadline. With the exception of picking up Odelein for a pick here or there to bolster their blue line, all other trades would have cost too much. They are definately to blame for the Rangers high cost for Poti and Murray. If they weren't trying too, the rangers wouldn't have had to give up York too. That alone is a big move. And let's not forget that they have a great playoff goalie who was picked up for nothing from the Red Wings. Yashin still has to do something in the playoffs, yet this year he has a second center with grit, Peca (one of the top all-round/two-way centers in the league), to match up better with opponents. Also, the Isles have exponentially more toughness than the Sens ever had since they joined the league. Unlike the Rangers, the Isles GM/top brass now have a feel for a good mix on a bench, and didn't opt to loose some great prospects coming up next year. Good GMs create interest for those players they really want to dish like Colorado's LaCroix. Yes he did have the Cup allure, but can anyone remember the players he traded for Bourque? Will Nieminen and Berry go down that path for Kasparitis? Perhaps I said too much.

This thread applies to 2003 as well if all goes right. At this time the Isles have a 4 pt. lead with two games in hand. The Rangers only have 11 games left to make up at least 4 pts with the Isles having the chance to earn 26 more points. Rangers best case scenario is that they win the two games to even the score and then have to earn more pts with the remaining 18 pts. available versus that of the 26 pts. available to the Isles. Not likely. They also are now behind the likes of Montreal having played the same amount of games. The thread applies again, even though the Rangers went out and bought the likes of Holik, Kasparitus, Kovalev, Dunham, Mironov, and now Carter. Who have the Isles and Canadians added????? (Niinimaa)

there are only 2 hard games left on the rangers schedule and that is ottowa(tonight) and the devils.

rangers fans can only hope.

the devils are having trouble scoring on the pp and in general but they are still the money this year. they are king of close games, they know how to come back in the 3rd, and brodeur is out of control

let's go devils!
and f the rangers, i got a big bet that they won't make the playoffs so they better not let me down. like there's a chance of that happeneing.

The rangers aren't totally eliminated, but things do look bleak. they have no margin for error and i think they have to pray that a few other teams(islanders, canadians, and bruins most likely) screw up.

Is this thread from a year ago?...cause if not, some of you should put the crack pipes down. The Devils are 2nd overall in the eastern conference and are top 5 overall in the league.
The Isles are in a freefall and the Ranger$ all-star team and 90 million dollar payroll STILL won't be enough to get em into the 8th seed. Devils rule.

while Carter was a great aquisition, isn't this the 6th year in a row Ranger$ fans have been saying "watch out for us next year"? The only thing to watch for will be to see the team with the highest payroll in the NHL not make it for a 7th straight year. embarassing...

Yes, I found this in files from last year. Yet it applies again in 2003! As for Boston losing a spot to the rangers, not even close to likely. The B's have a 7 point lead and a game in hand with the Rangers only having 22pts left available. So they need 7/22 pts already, assuming that the B's get 0/24pts left available to them. So let's say the B's get 10/24 pts left, the Rangers would then need 17/22pts. Also, this means that the Canadian's have to make less than 16/22pts. Not likely. It's the Isles or nothing.

The "next year chant" has already started for the NYR fans again huh?

I always thought one of the worst trades my Caps ever made was when they dealt Carter and Jason Allison to the Bruins for Ranford, Oates, and Tocchet. Sure it got them into the finals that one year, but with what they gave up, they are still hurting from it. Imagine Carter and Allison still with the Caps...wow...

Id also like to thank the New York Rangers for ruining hockey with their huge salaries to mid range players that jack up the scale for every one else...

AMEN.

Its because of teams like the greedy ass Ranger$ that there is going to be a work stoppage after next season and hockey fans will be without a 2004-05 season. Only the NY Rangers would pay a 2nd line center like Bobby Holik 9 million a year, a cherry picker like Pavel Bure 10 million a year, and a washed up Eric Lindros whatever it is they SURELY are overpaying him.
