finally, i have found an off topic thing that alot of people enjoy. So i am calling out all the anime fans on the board (hence the title) to bring out their anime-y goodness by telling why they love anime so much. and i'll start in my own form.

anime has given me an outlet of inspiration. when i was a wee evf, i started watching anime via WPIX. Yes, the station of which has not many good shows and does Kids WB. Well, i caught myself every morning fasinated by. . . Sailor Moon. I was young and it started the anime frenzy with me. The i started watching the films in curiousity. Akira, Ghost In The Shell, Vampire Hunter D,Wicked City, and my favorite of all time, Kite. I was basically raised of TV and Radio, plus i feel so young by being 17 and having the capacity for anime of a 30-45 year old. And i know i never call in R & F or make any appearances and its all because i'm under 18. Anywho. . . after the normal anime films i found myself lying in a pool of a great anime genre. . . HENTAI! yes, its anime porn, but who cares. Amusing i must say. But to make a long story short *coughs "too late"* Anime is great. and i'm not a DBZ fan anymore, the show is to drawn out and retarted for me, but i had to see DB GT and that sucked ass worse then DBZ. And on that note. . . Take it easy, Clarkys and Clarkyettes.

Vampire Hunter D is what first let me fall in love with anime. I saw it back in the late 80s, and at the time, I had seen nothing like it.

I suppose I love it because of the variety of different styles, and the quality of the stories. IMO, the quality of anime is much better than that of its American counterparts.

If you're talking anime you have to give props to the old school: Speed racer, Battle of the Planets (aka G-Force) as well as the newer stuff that the WB and Fox feeds us on the regular because American cartoons have so much censorship to deal with that they essentially suck ass these days

DBZ is what got me into anime, but it was from a friend that had fan subbed tapes. The censors kill it to hell here, its much better watchin the original.
Other than that Cutie Honey, La Blue Girl, and Vampire Hunter D are on my most watched list.

I don't like Akira.

I like Akira for one specific reason - innovative use of TK.

I look at Carrie, and I just think, what a waste.

Akira, now THAT is how to use TK. Just ripping shit apart with your mind. Tetsuo was my hero.

i think its called tnechi munchi.. its the first anime they show on saturday nights, it gets on my damn nerves. the storyline right now is that this kid died and he gets chance to live again, and theres this bitch on a broom for some reson.. whats the deal with the redheaded white guy. the animation is so so and i really think the plot is cheesy, i feel the same way about sailor moon. i think i only like the serious anime like ninja scroll and cowboy .. what are good serious type shows or movies should i watch?

Well at answer what anime you should watch, I would suggest Kite. Its really good. Its like La Femme Nikita but the character, Sawa, assassinates kid touchers. Theres a love interest in it. Its amazing. If you can, try to find the Director's Cut on DVD. Ok i'm surprise this post got so many replies. So. . . Take it easy, Clarkies and Clarkettes.

to wake up every Saturday
morning extra early for Dragon
Ball, NOT DBZ, at 5:30, so I've

dubbing DB. I also liked Iria:
Zariem the Animation, and this

Metropolis.

Claire, I'm pretty sure that you're not referring to Tenchi Muyo. I don't remember a "bitch on a broom" in any of the Tenchi series.

And I disagree with some of you. Not only does Tenchi NOT suck monkey balls, but it's a delightful series. One of my faves, actually.

LOL! You have an excellent point there. 5 chicks (6 if you count Kiyone), and he never lays a finger on any of them. It takes him till the last series to even show any interest in a girl. ;)

Although there's a rumored final Tenchi series in development, where he FINALLY chooses which of the girls he'll stay with. I say shock them all and pick Washu.

I've watched anime for 5 years and i feel that the following shows should be considered anime, but suck Monkey Balls

Dragonball Z
Tenchi Muyo (everyone of his series)
Dragonball GT
Zoids
Pilot Candiate
Yuyu Hakusho
Ping Pong Club
Pokemon
Dragonball AF
Digimon

Those shows just suck so much. They give ANIME a bad name. SEEYUH!

he had 5 women fighting over him, and he showed no interest in them at all.

Reminds me of Ranma 1/2, which, by the way, I always found hilarious.
I saw Tenchi, (one of the series, I guess the first) in subtitled form years ago, I remember liking it, but I don't remember it much. I haven't seen it since they started playing it here...

I saw a really freaky anime series a few years ago called Lain, which I enjoyed, and when Sci-fi channel ran "Saturday anime" I loved "Record of Lodos War" as well as "space Train 999" and "Project A-Ko."

Also, there was a short-lived "Dragon warrior" series (loosely based on the old video game) years ago that I used to get up early sunday mornings to watch....
