To make this appropriate for the Old School Forum, it should be from the television show, not the cartoon or comic bookm but I really don't care.

I'd say the Riddler, not John Astin, but the tall and skinny one whose name eludes me.

Coming in a close second is the Bookworm/King Tut, who, if memory serves me correctly, was the same professor, and he'd turn into only one of the villains depending on what accidentally fell on his head.

There's one more, deliciously ghoulish one, but I don't want to be selfish.

Has to be the Joker! From the comic books to the movie to the Adam West series there is no better adversary of Batman than the joker. He's ruined batman's entire life and he continues to do it to this day!

Are you kidding? Newmar was a pallid imitation of the sensual, sultry, exotic Eartha Kitt. Newmar played the part, but Kitt was Catwoman.

How can you say Eartha Kitt was better than Julie Newmar? Eartha Kitt just filled the role in the last season. It was all about Julie. (And let's not forget Lee Meriweather in the 1964 movie)

Eartha Kitt was famous because she knew how to purr. Otherwise she was a scary beast of a woman.

I'm happy that Heckler mentioned Vincent Price's "Egghead"...only the Batman TV show would write a character that would run out of lines before the show ended. I mean how many words begin with "ex" anyway? So, instead of searching for more ways to say "Egggggciting, Batman!", they ended it by throwing eggs at each other.

You don't see anything that good today.

Precisely... a scary beast of a woman... who better to play a villaness named Catwoman? She slinked when she walked, she was disdainful and enticing at the same time, and as you said, she purred... just like a cat. She was the perfect Catwoman.

I disagree...the most stupid and therefore best thing in the Batman arsenal was the Shark Repellant he had in his helicopter.

Because, when you have a helicopter, you better DAMN well make sure you've got shark repellant in it, to keep the air sharks away.

Kate the Witch rocks.

You had to be the best armed superhero if you were Batman, because you had to fight villains such as the penguin, who had an umbrella that could not only shoot bullets and sleeping gas, but hypnotize you and enable you to fly. Why penguin=umbrella eludes me, but I'm sure that umbrella had a high maintenance cost, which forced the Penguin into a life of crime.

Brilliant. I should have thought of that. It must've been hard keeping that Monocle in the whole time Batman was throwing "POW"s and "BOFFO"s at you. That takes talent.

You people remember the shark sequence from the Batmovie, but still ignore Lee Merriwether. Just proves that Julie Newmar was better.

Lee Meriwether will always have a place in my heart for having a role in "The New Munsters"

Just one more question...where exactly did the endless supply of thugs come from? I could understand the criminally insane superfiend Joker striking fear and respect in the hearts of men, and the Penguin certainly had the cash to throw around...but Egghead? The guy's bald with a pointy head and hangs around chicken coops...if you supported yourself through a life of crime, I'd hope you'd have a bit more respect for yourself to try and get in on the ground floor with one of the more respectable villains. Don't even get me started on the Bookworm/King Tut, who only dabbled in evil when something hit him in the head...he didn't have connections to get thugs! They must be on the street corner like whores. I imagine if the supervillains were still around today, they'd have to work with Daylaborers. Batman wouldn't have to punch them, just offer to pay them more.

Be that as it may, there were still millions of them. I'd think the entire population of Gotham that Batman was defending was actually just Henchmen, if it weren't for Alfred, the Commisioner, and the police chief. And Aunt Harriet. He'd defeat a roup to make way for another. Batman is a modern day Sisyphus.

Speaking of Alfred, if I were Batman, I'd have to kill him. After all, he kept the secret of Batgirl's identity away from Batman. What else is he keeping from Batman? He can't be trusted.

I gotta say Egghead, (Vincent Price rules). My favorite devicee in the bat cave was the batcomputer. That could do anything. Solve the Riddlers riddles, analyze clues.
In the great catwoman debate, I gotta go with Kitt. She was definitely the sexiest.

Anybody into comics I definitely recommend picking up the last two issues of Detective comics, great batman storyarc.

I just saw Batman on the other day, and they were fighting an old lady called the Black Widow...what made no sense was how Batman and Robin had a Bat Brain Analyzer. It could totally analyze a person's brain, in about 5 seconds, and tell you what was wrong with them...and it was portable! Bat technology is years ahead of us!

Remember the "POW!" "CRUNCH!!" "BLAM!!" balloons that popped up on the old TV show? The guy who made them was a letterer for DC Comics named Joe Letterese. I grew up on the same block as him, and for Halloween, he would give out stacks of comic books. I used to run home and change my mask to go back and get another stack. Years later, he told me I never fooled him.

For the old TV show, I'd go with Frank Gorshin's Riddler. Always manic fun.

But for the comic, c'mon - no one will ever beat the Joker. Read "Death in the Family", "Arkham Asylum", "The Killing Joke", and the last trade paperback for "No Man's Land". Joker smokes just about every other comic book villain ever created.

From the comics, to tv show, to the movies, to the cartoon. I would have to say the Joker, with Ra's Al Guhl as a close second.

Joker in the comics, paralyzes Batgirl. Kills the 2nd Robin, and the commisoner's gf. And if you haven't watched Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, Uncut edition. Go watch it. Shows how sadistic the Joker is.

Ra's Al Guhl, just cause in the comics he takes down the whole Justice League by using the ideas Batman had for taking everyone even Superman down.
