For all the other film buffs out there Variety reported that director / writer Billy Wilder died Wednesday night of phemonia in Beverly Hills.
Some of my favorite works of his were The Lost Weekend, A Foreign Affair, Stalag 17, Sabrina, Witness for the Prosecution, Some Like It Hot and The Apartment. Not to mention two of my favorite films of all time the classic noir films Double Imdemnity and Sunset Blvd.

I just watched The Lost Weekend and, as a recovering alcoholic, I have to say that's the best movie about alcoholism ever. Nothing has even come close in 50 years.
As a movie fan, I am ashamed that I've only seen three of his flicks to date. I'm going on a Billy bender and seeing all the movies on your list, Sketchy. I'll post my reviews here.

Wilder was one of those few directors who crossed many genres. I agree w/ all the great flix mentioned, and I'll throw in The Fortune Cookie, the first pairing of Lemon and Matthau, hilarious.
Cake or Death? Uh, I'll have the cake please.

"Mr. De Mille, I'm ready for my closeup now"
Wow! Gloria Swanson was creeping me out long before the end of the movie. It was amazing that Buster Keaton and the other silent film stars, including Swanson and De Mille, had the cohones to play the "wax figures" in the movie. Very impressive.
It's a bitch to find any Billy Wilder movies in Blockbusters. I'm going to be hitting up the small stores.
