Nintendo was the end-all-be-all. If just for the original Legend of Zelda alone. No other system brought you through so many emotions, from the exhilaration of grabbing the Pteradactyl in "Ice Climber", to the PURE UNADULTERATED RAGE one felt when that goddamn dog laughed at you in "Duck Hunt", from the pain of finding out that "The Princess is in Another Castle", to the joy of buying all the special moves in "River City Ransom".

I could talk FOREVER about Nintendo. And one day, I will.

i loved playing with the nintendo set. unfortunately, my father would always reign control over the nintendo and so i never got to play much.<p>
contra was probably the best nintendo game i played though. i also liked playing with the gun thing...you could shoot the ducks with this gun that you hooked up to the set. i forget what the game was called.

You can't go wrong with atari. I loved playing donkye kong and pole position!

That game was "Duck Hunt", Ms. Germs. The easiest way to win was to hold the gun an inch away from the screen.

Look up the band "The Minibosses" on Napster or your favorite music app to get some quality video game music.

a friend of mine put that contra song (by the minibosses) on a tape for me. i was disappointed though because the song on the tape didn't sound like the song on the game. or maybe it did and i just can't remember. oh well.

you should check out c average...from hearing the contra song i'm assuming the minibosses sound like c average and c average kicks so much ass.

I'll check them out.

Admittedly, their Contra version is not my favorite. Check out Wizards and Warriors, Ghost and Goblins, Rygar, Legend of Zelda, or Super Mario Bros. 2 for some good shit, though.

Ahh...nintendo. I remember playing Mega Man 2 for hours and hours. There was another game for the gun called Freedom Force that was pretty cool.

my first system was the Atari 2600. Spent many hours on that, then moved to the NES. Then I got my N64 and started collecting old games. Now, name a system and/or a game and I probably own it.

For true old school we have to go back to the TRASH 80, and the Commodore 64.

Anyone play the original Adventure? Such nostalgia!

Ahh, the good ole C64. I was a spy hunter king. Also, I had some Bruce Lee game which I sucked ass at.

As for console gaming, I started with Atari 2600 (it was old though, but still before NES) Moved up to NES and then I switched to Genesis.

I am also the proud owner of SEGA CD, which lasted about 1 week, and SEGA SATURN, which lasted about 2 weeks.

Anyone get R.O.B. the Robot for Original Nintendo? I loved that damn thing.

If you could set up R.O.B., then you should work for NASA. That thing was impossible to use. Fun to break though.

And did you figure out that if you used your hands instead of your feet on the Power Pad you could go amazingly fast? Great way to cheat.

Does anyone recall that Sears
used to put out a system
identical to the Atari 2600?
It was the same in every way,
played the same games, but it
had a Sears logo on it. For
some reason, we mocked the
shit out of any poor bastard
kid whose parents opted to
save $10 and buy the
"off-brand" version.

Also, did anyone ever own a
Mattel Intellivision and not
have completely shredded the
controllers within a month?

Commodore 64 was king. Best game was "Summer Games", especially the track events that you couldn't win without breaking those cheap-ass joysticks by shaking them back and forth.

And, of course, the truly geeky Infocom games: Zork Trilogy, Sorceror, Wishbringer, Hitchhiker's Guide... (stop me before I cry)

i remember sub hunt for Intellivision.
And adventure was my favorite atari 2600 game. Thats the one that you had to visit the castles and kill the dragons that looked ducks! Did anyone else find the secret room with the game designers name it like me?
Warlords was one of my absolute favorite. As well as kaboom. That was the most frantic game. Though that darn dog from duck hunt laugn at you did really get your goat. And just how many times did u turn the score counter over in asteroids before you got bored.

Had the 2600 and the NES. Then I graduated to an actual "computer": A TI-994A (16 bit, 16K NOT MEGS!!)

I remember playing Parsec with the voice modulator attached, and loved hearing that voice say "Congratulations" after you flew thru the third level refueulling tunnel. You want to talk about Adventure? How about the old text-based adventure games where you typed in the commands like "Go West" or "Get Book"? The one for the TI was on tape and took 30 minutes to load!
Then I moved onto an Atari 800XL. When I wasn't programming, I loved playing Blue Max and Rescue from Fractulus. Nothing like catching an alien in the airlock or having him jump up and start banging on your front window!

For the 2600, I played Asteroids to the point of having part of that ship burned into the TV screen. As for the NES, shoot the dog!!! Any game that taunted you was done to get you PO'ed enough to continue until it was time to go to school again.

The first system I every played was the old Atari system back in the mid-80s. My neighbor's grandson had it, and Jesus, I played that thing for hours whenever he'd let me. I was a god at Pitfall!

But Nintendo was the best. To this day, there are games for that system that, I believe, are BETTER than some of the cutting edge stuff put out today. Two of the first games I ever bought for the NES were Ninja Gaiden and the original Metal Gear.

They put out so many great games for that system, games that I still hold near and dear. The Ninja Gaiden series, Metal Gear, the Mega Man franchise, the *original* Final Fantasy, Contra, Castlevania....
