When did everyone get their first period?

I was 10. I was absolutely mortified and hid it for 2 days... and didn't tell anyone at school because I thought I was a freak!

i was around 11. i was also very mortified and remembered having the worst cramps ever. i never said anything to my mom but she eventually found out a couple of months later and said "you probably know more about sex and stuff than i do"

I was 11 and it was over the summer break. I was staying at my aunt's beach house and I ran into her room in the middle of the night crying. I thought I was a freak because all my other cousins didn't get theirs yet. Ugh the trauma!

i was 12... it actually wasn't too bad for me becasue my sister is 2 years older and so i knew what to expect. now it's totally traumatic, but back then, it was kind of exciting

14 on the last day of summercamp. when i got it i didnt really believe it cause i had been waiting for it for so long cause i was the only girl my age who hadnt gotten it. So i was excited after a day when i realized what had happened. God had I only known then and appreciated not having it.

I was 13...i woke up went to the bathroom and started screaming, everyone pretty much knew and having 2 older brothers....well, the day wasnt exactly fun

I was 11 and I remember it being so painful and mortifying. I was in Catholic school and was petrified to tell the nuns anything about it so I went home and told my mother. She cried and told me that she was happy, but that I was "different" now, more grown up. It was a conflicting feeling.

What a remarkable conincidence. I was talking to my youngest daughter (8) about this yesterday.

I'm very very fortunate that my kids are able to talk to me about whatever is on their minds.

Did you guys know that women accross the US are getting their periods earlier and earlier. Interestingly, the onset of puberty for boys hasn't changed at all. This puts additional strain on the young women as they receive the most attention from older guys, who often take advantage of a mature body but an immature mind.

It was the summer between seventh and eight grade, and I was on a camping trip with my dad & my brother, just lovely...thankfully it was only about 20 minutes from home and we were going home the next day.
