I haven't been sleeping very for atleast the past month. Even with OTC sleeping aids. My doctor gave me a script for Remeron which is supposed to help with sleep disturbances. The problem is that it's $80 for a month and I dont have health insurance or prescription drug coverage. I'm so crabby and on edge and I'm really just exhausted. Is there anything I can take OTC that is proven? and if not, what should I do?

im sad for you.....when i had
problems sleeping in college (i
slept like a baby, that is to say
for 1/2 hour clips, and then i was
up for HOURS......) What i did
was put lavender on the heater
in a bowl of water, it has calmong
affects....i also recomend
Kava-Kava root....smells like
Poo....but after a week of taking
it, i saw some improvement. Also
Melatonin, it is what your body
produces to make ya
sleepy.....hope you find some
relief....

Try valerian.

Studies have shown that it's more effective than placebos & as effective as standard sleep medications for people who have trouble sleeping. No hangover effect, either.

You can buy it in pills or liquid in any good alternative health store. I like the liquid drops better. Be warned: the drops smell awful, like moldly old sweatsocks. My cat freaks whenever he gets a whiff. But it works.

Some drugs just won't take NO for an answer.

GINA - I'd stay far away from herbal "remedies." A study conducted in Time Magazine showed that even the ones that have some effect must be taken in mega-doses (several bottles at once) to have any effect.

I'd ask your dr. for another medication that is generic. The price difference is amazing.

Whatever you do, you're treating the symptom not the cause. Why are you plauged with this insomnia? WHY can't you sleep?

OTC?

Over The Counter

I'm not really sure as to why I cannot sleep. All I know is that it started when the doc bumped my dose of Celexa up to 40mgs. I sleep fine on Fri and Sat night, but the rest of the week I am a wreck. I am pshysically exhausted by the time I lay down but I toss and turn all night. This spell of insomnia had happened to me once before a year and a half ago and I became addicted to OTC sleeping pills. I guess I should prolly talk to my doctor about this.

By all means talk to your doctor.

Paradoxically, among the side effects of celexa are insomnia and sleepiness. It affects people differently. At 40 mg, you may have crossed the level needed for your body to experience this side effect.
