Today marks the 9th month of unemployment for me and my friend Mike. Anyone else in this ridiculous state of affairs as well? This economy fucking sucks. I mean, I can design an e-commerce site with my eyes closed and my fingers cut off, and I can't seem to find myself a fucking HELP DESK position.


Argh, tell me I'm not alone!

I graduated college in May 2000. I was unemployed from then until November of that year. I worked at that job until October 2001, then laid off. Just found a full time job again three weeks ago. I have no answers, just seems that you can try forever, and then suddenly one day you get an interview and the next week you're working again.

The best way to find a job, though, is through connections. Can any of your parent's friends help?

Unemployed since July 28, 2001 at 9:35 A.M. Even the Employment agency I used to get my last job has told me they have no companies approaching them with any new jobs. I worked for a Sports Publishing company and I loved my job. Besides the free catered, open bar MSG sky box tickets, it was cool seeing my name in the masthead of everything I worked on. It had a real sense of accomplishment.

Job market's recovering my ass!!!!

I am in the same boat. I just had a phone interview. They said they would get back to me. F__K them!
I have sent out thousands of F'en resumes will little response. The only companies that call me offer NO SALARY with plnty of POTENTIAL. I let them know that POTENTIAL doesn't pay the F***ing rent and put food on the table, MOTHER F***er! Now I know why people go postal! TIEC! (Take it easy Clarkie!) See Yuh! Good Luuck!

Jeff, have a few friends in the same boat. One just got a job in Networking the other week. I don't know if this indicates a possible upturn in this area of the job market, but hope it does.

In the mean time, get more of those letters after your name. Lots of companies like people to have the certifications. (I got some only to appeal to those HR reps who have no idea what they mean. If you get interviewed by a tech, they can tell whether you know your stuff without these things.)

If you've got good computer skills, consider becoming an administrative assistant like me. I know its not a very manly job :) but you get to use your computer skills a lot, and I've never had a problem finding a job (they always need admins). Right now I get $47K a year with full benefits and flex time.

I was unemployed for 8 months last year. The pay sucked, but the free time was great. I'm currently being paid below my market value. I send out resumes every week or two and have yet to be called in for a single interview this year.

Ive been laid off for awhile also....I feel all your pain. Im in an apprenticeship program for Local 79 laborers and mason tenders. When I first started shit was great. Alot of work cause we were doing the same amount of work for less pay...shit started at like 14 an hour.IM in my 4th yr , got 3 raises.....and NOTHING! New classes come in....and now Im the guy who's shit outta work. I call the union hall....still on the out of work list...but they remember me when its time to pay my union dues though....they never forget to remind me of that shit. I say we all pool our efforts and start our own business....our own company...!!!!!

I, myself, have been unemployed for three months, but I walked from a 70-80 hour a week investment bank type job so I'm loving every minute of it. I'm taking classes and have time to play outdoors and skip and be happy. This will be all well and good until I run out of money. But let's focus on the here and now, shall we? <P> <P>

Jeff went almost 1 year -- now I'm make'n 1/2 of my old salary just to be with a company where i'll have a chance to make my old $ in a year or too. ( got to feed the family -- so take'n less blows but had to be done)
