Horde King.A friend of mine has this thing on his toe that he claims is a hangnail. I don't know what that is or what one is supposed to look like. He's had it for at least 4 months now. This friend of mine has been complaining about it for a while and seems like he is in agony at times. I saw it the other day and it was bleeding and there was this huge bubbly type thing next to his big toe. Its just awful to look at. I told him to go to the doctor but he won't listen. He says it will go away. But it has been months! Is it normal for one to have a "hangnail" for so long? Is treatment other than peroxide necessary? Also, do they have an odor after time or is that just the gangrene setting in? Please help me convince my friend that this is not normal or am I just being overly concerned?

dude an ingrown toe nail is just your nail growing to far into the sides of your toe.. no real bumps should come up.. but he most likely has one very infected toe.. which fucking hurts like a mother fucker...

An ingrown toenail occurs when a section of the nail curves into the flesh of the toe and becomes embedded in the soft tissue. It almost always affects the big toe.

Tissue can grow over the edge of the ingrown toenail. If dirt and sweat enter this area, infection can occur, causing the skin at the side or tip of the nail to become red, swollen and tender. Sometimes, a small amount of pus can be seen exiting from the embedded area. Sometimes, antibiotics are essential to treat this infection if it becomes severe.

Take a look at this site and click on the link for symptoms (in symptom section) for a picture of an ingrown toenail.

Your description of your friends problem sounds nothing whatsoever like an ingrown toenail. The odor is suggestive of gangrene, particularly if he or she has diabetes.

Please encourage him or her to go to a doctor immediately.
