Okay ... I just got off the phone with GVAC { thanks for listening } and I starting crying because I had such a bad night. My question is ... how come whenever I cry, I feel so exhausted afterwards? I'm so tired now! I just want to go back to bed now!

i haven't really cryed in years. just i little tear here and there. but i can't remember the last time i had a really good cry, but i do remember how it felt. i couldn't breathe, my eyes got dry even though i was crying, and i felt tired.
i think you feel tired after you cry because you let out all of your emotions and you are just drained.

i would guess you would be "mentally tired"...
there may have been alot on your mind that has given your emotions a workout...this may have eventually made you cry...
to me it's like when you drive a very long distance and you seem very tired however the only physical thing you were doing was sitting and applying the gas/brake and moving the steering wheel... I think what makes you tired is concentrating on the road for a long time(like studying)
I'd much rather be physically tired than mentally, you sleep better...

awwwwww poor christy!!!! you just need to stop letting things or people pushing your buttons if you have to cry a river do it cause that shows that you have strong emotions. ... how come whenever I cry, I feel so exhausted afterwards? im not horde king by any means, but i would think its cause your body gets over heated cause your heart is pumping and your blood is moving faster:) <P>

Crying is a very physical act and your muscles can become tired from it. Plus, after you cry a good one, you're still left with the reason(s) why you cried in the first place. The crying didn't solve anything other than letting off a little emotional pressure. You probably feel a bit depressed. That, coupled with the physical exhaustion, makes you want to take a nap.

CHRISTY - I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I'll try to get in touch with you over the weekend.
In reponse to your specific query regarding crying, here's some information you may find helpful.
Strong emotions such as grief. anger or happiness, cause the muscles around the lacrimal glands to tighten and squeeze out tears.
Many people feel better after they cry and exhaustion after an extensive cry is very common.
Crying stimulates the release of endorphins which are our body's natural healing agents.
In contrast, keeping the tears inside can cause enervation (loss of energy).
After feeling the urge to cry, in itself draining, the actual release of tears and the subseuqent release of endorphins has the effect of leaving us feeling better but tired.
It's a normal response.
