As I sit here at my desk(posting on rf.net) and finishing up the daily status report, I'm forced to question if college prepared me for life. 1-12th grades are needed because they form a foundation. But I'm not using one thing from college, from my major or outside of it. The only thing i needed college for is to say I went. The only thing employers want to know is if i graduated. The don't care too much from where or what my GPA was.
And now, I'm considering finishing up my masters. But if the only motivation for me to do that is to add an extra line on my resume, i don't know if i can motivate myself to do it.

There is nothing more exhilerating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there?

Well let's see. In the real world you: wake up eat breakfast go to work meet new people and pick on them lunchbreak step out for a quick smoke before you go back back to work logg off/punch out go home In school (a real world in it's own right) you: wake up eat breakfast go to school meet new people and pick on them lunchbreak quick smoke before you go back back to class get homework assignments go home I'd say there's a similarity. Yes school does prepare you for the real world.

The answer to your question is hell no. I have a degree in Economics which neither helped me with the job I settled for when I graduated from college (Investment Bank-esque Bitch) nor does it help me with the job I want to get (Broadcasting Deity). But you're right it's got to be damn easier to get a good paying job with a college degree then without. It's just that most of those jobs involve a cubicle. And cubicles scare me. Then again what the hell do I know?

I don't know if college prepared me for work, but I think it prepared me for life.

Depends on what your learning.
If you at school for a business
degree and you just stay a
secretary or at temp jobs for your
whole life then I guess not, but
alot of kids here learn alot to
help them in their life.
Alot of the audio majors come
back with demos and albums
theyve recorded.
I just learnt about low contrast
filters today and used them quite
successfully.
I guess it all depends on what
YOU do with it.

Not a chance. It only gets you an established routine, that does not mean that you are prepared. I work as an engineer, and i use nothing i learned from my classes. I mean i understand what people say most of the time, but theoretical learning does not equal hands on learning. I have succeeded because the thing you need most is confidence.
Im here to tell you if you are worried because your GPA is not a 4.0 but you go out and party and deal with people in the real world. The people who are the brains never make it that big because they can communicate well with others so they get stuck being the nerds who get things done. While the people who experienced college are the nerds bosses.
This is what i have learned and observed at my job and i work on F-18 fighters, everybody is just bluffing hoping to get through the day.
The best thing to do in school to prepare for real life is take communication classes, have fun, dont be afraid to make an ass out of yourself and you will be fine
Shaolin shadowboxing, and the Wu-Tang sword style
If what you say is true, the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang
could be dangerous
Do you think your Wu-Tang sword can defeat me?
En garde, I'll let you try my Wu-Tang style

I think people are missing the point of college. In general classes don't prepare you for the real world, but the experience does. (No one get offended, I'm not saying you have to go to college to learn this, but it helps)
I learned how to balance things in my life. To be able to wake up for class, do the work, study, meet new people, join activities, party, and graduate says A LOT about a person. Think of how disciplined you have to be to do that. Before college everything was scheduled for you and you pretty much have to go to class. You make your own schedule in college. I learned a lot, but you can easily learn that in the real world too. I think college just eased me into it.
