CHRISTY - The "biological clock" refers to the time of a woman's life when she is fertile. This begins from the first menstral cycle and lasts until menopause.
The average onset of menopause is 51, and fewer than 1 in 100 women reach menopause before 40.
The "clock" analogy refers to the limited time frame during which a woman can conceive. The older the woman, the faster the clock is said to be ticking.
BTW - Unlike most other cells which die off and are replaced during life, a female baby is born with all the ova she will ever have.
