Identical Triplets topic...

Hey whoever,
I am a brand new member here, from Wash DC of all places, too bad we only get the show on tape delay...

I heard the identical triplet thing last night, and i read this today.......

when Amadillos give birth, they always have 4 offspring at a time, and all are identical twins, and all are same the sex. That is odd, but still not as odd as Al....


just thought that was strange...

Identical twins, triplets, etc, occur when one sperm fertalizes one egg and the fertilized egg splits into identical entities before the zygote starts grpwing.

If all armadillo's have identical quadruplets it's clearly a genetic trait.

BTW - Identical twins etc, must by definition be the same sex. Fraternal twins can be different sexes, as they develop from two different eggs fertalizing two different eggs.

I just thought that the armadillo thing was interesting, since callers said humans could not do it... I guess animals is a differnt story.... <P>
