It costs me $20 to fill my tank. I fill it twice a week. The price of gas will be gowing up soon. So mine will be worse than yours soon.

I drove from Toms River to Bridgewater 5 days a week for about 10 months. 140 miles round trip. Cost me about 10 bucks in gas and $2.10 in tolls every day I did it. Plus it was about an hour and a half if there was no traffic. If it was rush hour, it took about 3 hours each way. Parkway & 287 were my only choices.

I set the alarm clock for 8 am, I hit the snooze button 2~4 times (depending on what I did the night before), I jump into the shower at around 8:30 while my coffee is brewing, I get out of the shower about 10 minutes later, drink my coffee and YET still make it on time to work at 9 o'clock...
Sorry boys I really feel bad for you but I can not relate, I get extremelly intense in traffic and if I had to work more than 1/2 hour everday in stop-go traffic I would have a heart attack or go on a shooting rampage.
I live around exit 9 on 287 and I work around exit 6, thankyouverymuch.

I used to commute to Ramsey from Central Jersey every day. I would be in my car by 6am to be at work in Ramesey by 8:30. I checked the timing of the commute when there's NO traffic, and it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get there. It seemed as though there was an accident every day around the 130s-140s on the parkway, which cost me anywhere from 20 mins to an hour. The supervisor there was unforgiving, and my commute home usually had me getting out of work at 5pm and pulling up to my door at 8pm. I told my boss: No More! He switched me over to the city, and now I take a bus in, where I can catch some Z's, read, or otherwise relax.

my commute is really rough...a whole 5 miles for me. I can usually put $10 worth of gas in my car and it'll last throughout the week. I can also get up at 8:45 and still be at work before my department shows up.

i spend $10-$20 on gas a week for school commuting, plus i take the back roads which is a pain in the ass when i get stuck behind grandma for her morning drive, but it still saves me time.

Between the bus and the subway I spend about $13 and an hour and a half each way a day, except when I drive in to work, where the time is about the same, but the cost is $26 for parking and tolls, not including gas.

I used to drive 50 miles each way to work for a year, with 3 Parkway tolls along the way. That commute totally killed the lease on my car.
Now I'm a 10 minute walk to the train in Montclair, quick trip to Hoboken, then uptown on the PATH. It costs me about $150 a month in commuting costs, and the only time I need gas is on the weekends.

When I commuted to Manhattan, prior to 9/11. I was paying $375 on a commuter train ticket and monthly Metrocard.
I left my house at 6:30 A.M. and did not walk through my door at night until 7:30 PM. Needless to say, I was nearly suicidal and homicidal every evening.
Now I just teach and listen to WNEW. Life is good.

when i was younger, there was a time when i would bounce back and forth between Western Mass. NYC/NJ and Northern VA on a pretty regular basis. Sometimes 2-3 times a week. (multiple residences aren't as great as you'd think - f1gm3nt can back me up on this one...) soo uhhh... unless yall gotta FLY to where you got to go - i think i got yall beat ;)

There's been a couple periods of a few months when I worked in New York and lived back in Jersey with my parents. There's no train service up by me, so I had to take the bus 'cross the bridge, and then the A Train downtown (for the first job, all the way to Chambers St!). Needless to say, it sucked - 3 hours out of my day, which was all the more infuriating cause by car, during non-rush hour, the trip takes maybe 30 minutes. If that damn bus wouldn't always be stopping to pick up all these damn passengers! :)
I moved to NYC over a year ago, and I'm paying a lot to live here, but the commute's a dream, 20 minutes tops by subway and walking. Definitely worth the monetary sacrifice.
