View Full Version : Question about cats...`

For over 4 years now I have had 2 cats in my house. I have recently aquired a 3rd one. A female, the other two are male. I know that when I brought my 2nd cat home 2 years ago my older cat was slightly jealous but they got along after 2 or 3 days. I have had this new cat for 3 days now and whenever my oldest cat sees her he growls, hisses and swats at her. She does the same too. Will these cats ever get along? And why are they doing this?

Cats are very territorial. The older male cat has been the "alpha" cat for 4 years. Female cats tend to the ones who want to "rule the roost." They are fighting it out to see who'll be the one who comes out on top.
The other male cat sounds like a "beta" cat because he didn't threaten the older one.
They'll get along if the heirarchy is established peacefully. I have 3 cats-- two beta males and a very alpha female. It all worked out because the fellas are wimps!

i only have 1 cat. He is fat. I had a dog but we had to put him to sleep in October because he was old and had all kinds of problems, he was 17 years old. I also have a snake. My goldfish died last summer, he was 4 years old.

I have two cats right now. And older male(4) and a female, just barely one. When the female was a kitten we brought her home, and the male started to hiss and growl. That was oct. by Nov they were tolerating eachother. By Jan they would sleep near eachother and everything is fine. Once the pecking order has been worked out, it'll be ok.

I am very much a dog person, but I know from some articles what is going on.
Alice hit it on the nose. They're trying to figure out the pecking order and until they do, they're going to test each other's boundaries. Eventually they'll work it out amongst themselves and the fighting will stop. Until them, you may have to keep them under observation.

From what I know about relationships, things should be fine once the male cat learns to put the seat back down on the litter box.

Using a newspaper for toilet or obidience training you pup can give him or her a rather distorted view of the press.

Same thing happens to husbands.

I got my cats about 5 months apart...
When the second one came into the house, the first one was very unhappy...
They get along okay now ater 7 years...But they do still fight...They are both fixed females...I don't think they ever really figured out the pecking order...
They just bitch slap each other whenever they see each other.

I love it when my cats do the bitch slap thing. One always backs down like a lil bitch too.
