Why students go on shooting rampages

18 people just lost their life at a school in Germany.

An expelled kid came back to school with a gun and took them out. But why?

I'll tell you why.

Parent's don't pay enough attention

They doin't feel accepted b their peers

The images that children see in the media (celebrities superodels, the latest fads and styles) are what they aspire (and feel pressured) to be. When they can't, they feel even more left out and isolated.

I'm waiting for when they blame this kid's violence on GTA3 or a rapper or a rock star. why don't we blame the kid and how he grew up, unloved and left out.

Would a "nice" kid- like they always like to call these people- ever get a gun and take out innocent people? I don't think so.

who does? everyone went through that in school, rejection by one's peers. none of us shot anyone, so that's not the cause. at most, a minor contributing factor

Clearly the kids who did this are profoundly disturbed and they represent one of the great problems facing this country today - the refusal to accept responsibility for one's actions and to place balme on the appropriate parties.

Why did these kids do it? They're fucked up. It has nothing to do with video games, Maryln Manson, or violence in movies. THEY did it and must face the blame. The other possible source to blame is the parents. You just have to wonder about the parenting skills of people who claim they had no inkling that their kids had an aresenal in their rooms.

Parents love to play the "blame game," because it's very easy to do and absolves them of responsibility for their kid's actions. This is why I'm very leary of politicians like Josepth Lieberman who believe that censoring violent content on video games, etc would put an end to this problem. Ridiculous!

Another problem is that society has equipped psychiatrists and psychologists with a thousand and one excuses why every bad thing that happens to you is everybody's fault but yours. It's your parents fault. It's the guys at school. It's the white man. Nowadays we've got white people screaming "It's the black man" No one is taught to take responsibility for their own actions or how to just deal with it anymore. Why can't kids just DEAL WITH IT? We've raised a nation of spineless weaklings who are strung out on prescription drugs and have no idea how to deal with the reality of the situation that people as a whole suck. And not eveyone is going to like you. Being misunderstood is a part of growing up and life doesn't always have a happy ending like on TV or a sad ending like in the music. We're not teaching them how to grow up. We're making excuses for them. All too often the person who is the cause of your misery is the person staring back at you in the mirror. I've heard O and A contradict themselves and blame the parents for not parenting but in the same breath report the story of a person with parents who WERE attentive and caring and whatnot with the kid just as fucked up as the one with the lack of parenting. Why is it the parents fault? Why the music? Why the video games? Why can't we point the finger at the one who pulled the trigger anymore?

Well, children don't grow up in a vacuum, so the environment a child grows up in is partially responsible.

When a child grows to legal age, they should be held totrally responsible in the eyes of the law, but if they got beaten and physically and emotionally tortured by their caregivers, is it still completely the child's fault?

If a child was destined to be a normal contributer to society and the child was neglected, then who is to blame for him shooting up a school? Yes, he is the one who should get executed for his crimes, but it's the environment he grew up in that is to blame for his mental development, unless there is something in this person's genetic structure that has ruined them from birth.

VEGETTA - Your reasoning is sound. However, we have to consider the implementation of such thinking. It would be impossible to find the single or multiple causes for a person's actions. In utopia, we could instantly see what went wrong with someone but in the real world our best efforts can only look at a person's actions.

This doesn't preclude mitigating circumstances or other things that would exonerate and hold blameless the person who did the action. Killing in self-defense is justified. A "burning bed" situation is justified. But, whether the person is a genetic abberation, a victim of his peers or parents or siblings, etc, the one unavoidable fact is that he did the act. That makes him liable for its consequences.
