I read in the Daily News today that WNEW may be going country with O and A going to K-Rock and everyone else just getting the axe... has anyone else heard this?

That article is pure speculation. It's even written that way. Usually, Hinckley will write rumors as fact, this time he even wrote rumors like rumors.
The deal is Y107 dropped the country format and now there is no country station at all. So, naturally people think WNEW is ready to flip and it will fill the void. The problem with that logic, though, is that why the hell does NYC need a Country station?? Y107 sucked as much as WNEW because we live in a city. There are no honkytonks and silos in NYC. WNEW may flip formats, but it ain't gonna be country.

COUNTRY UPDATE: Ray Rossi, morning man for the departing country format on WYNY (107.1 FM), was back on the air yesterday remarking that "this is the longest shivah-sitting in radio history."
Big City Radio, owner of WYNY, hasn't said when country will end, though it will be soon. Meanwhile, it has been classy enough to let the hosts say goodbye.
The big debate among country fans now has shifted to what station, if any, will pick up the format.
At the top of everyone's wish list is WNEW (102.7 FM), which except for Opie and Anthony has lousy ratings as a hot-talk station. The Rotisserie Radio scenario is to move those two to WXRK (92.3 FM) and give 'NEW a new format.
That would be a lot more complicated than it sounds, because of contracts and other internal factors. Even if 'NEW management decided to switch, there's no guarantee country would be the winner.
But there are reports from inside 'NEW that "what-if" discussions have been held - which may reflect only the fact that radio, like other businesses, throws out many scenarios and acts on few of them.

I liked Y107 when it was X107, good alternative until alternative went to crap and took over the mainstream.
I see alot of Y107 bumper stickers around, so there are definitely people listening to that crap.

This news really depressed me. I think WNEW is perfect the way it is. I NEED Ron and Fez. This is the best radio show EVER. (better than stern ever was) I hope they land somewhere close. Can someone please post streaming information if Ron & Fez leave town :( <P>

here is the crappy rule, if ferrals ratings go up they have to move his time slots, because they cant air competition to Howard Stern because they are under the same company so they put ferral the guy with the lowest ratings on paallel to stern so that Stern has no competition honestly its not fair though because Stern is a dumbass but its how the stupid stations work

It's not that he has the lowest reatings (he's only been on NEW for less than 6 months) It's just that he has been saddled with this Sports angle to his show.
He's itching to be able to talk about whatever, but I have heard his producer verbally scream out "no!" when Gerall wanted to talk about something other than sports.
Going up against stern and having your hands tied must suck.
Oh god, I'm happy that I'm actually going to the Hollywood ending premire. Now I have some kind of proof that i'm a somewhat normal human being and not a 'tard in front of a computer. Well, I am a tard anyway...
