Australian Rules player suspended for scrotum-biting


An Australian Rules Football player has been suspended for biting an opponent's scrotum during a match.

Port Melbourne captain Peter Filandia has been suspended for 10 games from the Victorian Football League.

He told a tribunal he bit Springvale player Chad Davis after his face was smothered. He apologised for the bite.

A doctor said Davis suffered bruising to his scrotum and lost a small amount of blood.

Tribunal chairman Eddie Power ordered the 31-year-old to have counselling before playing again.

The Australian quotes Filandia as saying: "It was a split-second decision" after the tribunal.

Last year, the Australian National Rugby League banned former international John Hopoate for 12 weeks for sticking a finger up an opponent's backside.

His club Wests-Tigers sacked him and he joined rivals Northern Eagles.
