I was listening to the Ron and Fez replay on saturday night on JFK, and I heard them talking about a "Battle of the Bands." I do not know what day of the week they were discussing this, but it sounds like fun. Have there been any more discussions about it?? I Know Eddy Trunk was in on the discussion too........ I would love to enter this if it ever got put together, and organized.... I got no problem bringing my band up from WASH DC.

Has anyone heard anything about this? Or was it just talk, with no intention of actually happening...

It is still being planned. It will be in conjunction between R&F and RF.Net.

I tried to get a thread going on this, only skidmark responded. But that's 3 bands now, and that's a start. Maybe another 2 or 3 bands and we got a contest(?). 

I used to be a fat kid, and man, the name just stuck.

I'm not aure what you are saying...... If this goes down will it be open to Jersey bands only??? Cause my group "rocket City Riot" is pretty good....

It would be a shame if only Jersey bands were accepted...

I was just busting your chops BK. Hey where can someone go to hear your music. On your website I see that you guys are working on a 15 song CD. That's great. I hate it when bands put out a CD with 10 or less songs on it. I don't see a link to your mp3ees. It's cool you guys get to promote your bands but it would be cooler to hear your music. I hope this battle happens.

I am always up for a lil' chop busting... =).... anyway go to: http://home.earthlink.net/~pmartone/rcr.htm and click on the "songs" link near the top. The songs will appear on the left hand side... If you send us an e-mail, we'll send you a copy of the cd. The songs have a drum machine only because they were recorded before I joined the band. We are re-recording everything, as well as a new 15 song cd. It's a nice mix of: radio pop/rockabilly/and plain ole' rock n' roll...

any rules so far....like are cover bands allowed, or must the set be all original.

I've already E-mailed a MP3 of my band UNHALLOWED to them, and I got no response. I was hoping that early interest would help me get a spot. But yea, I want IN! I want to bring my band's brand of New Jersey Death Metal to the Ron and Fez audience. I know that some crappy cover band will end up winning, but I'm gonna go there and KICK ASS anyway.
I hope that any Ron and Fez people reading this get some info on it on the air soon.

Hey "Masked Poster.." what kind of death metal you into?? I have been into Black/death since '91...I personally know Dark Funeral, Ancient, .... others as well.... allthough latley I have been listening to less death and black and more 'mainstream' music, but I still love the heavy stuff... Soilwork, The Crown, Strapping Young Lad, Emperor... pretty much any norwegian black metal, or any european death or black metal... I am also into that whole 'power metal" stuff like Helloween, and Rhapsody.. I also really like Funk and Techno.. Like Jamiroquai, and the Baldwin brothers.... Kind of odd, but as a musician I love just about all genres of music.....Wee!

that I don't think cover bands
should be allowed in.

Maybe, like one round of covers
would be a cool feature. You
could judge on the song choice,
execution, etc.

But come on, this is a contest for
people with real talent. No
human jukeboxes!

You're not alone. I HATE cover bands. If you saw a comedian doing other peoples jokes, you'd call him a hack and beat about the head with a whitefish...why is it ok for a band?

I'm torn with cover bands:
1. Not everyone can play the music well. I do know A LOT of shitty cover bands. So to do it well, they have to be tallented muscians. BUT!

2. IT'S NOT THEIRS! It's a lot easier to put a CD in and practice until it sounds like the recording then to make a good song AND play it well.

So I'd have to lean towards NO cover bands myself.

Hello there Bigking. I guess you're pretty new too. You only have about 20 some odd posts.
I'm into DEATH METAL a lot more than Black. I can count the good Black Metal bands I've heard on my one hand. Emperor, my buddy's band Bloodthrone, and a few others who I don't even remember.
I dig the Death Metal. Suffocation, Mortician, Dying Fetus, Disinter, Psycotogen, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Fleshgrind, Teratism, Anoxia, and so many more.
But like you, I find myself liking more mainstream stuff too. I used to ONLY listen to Death, then I got out of the idea that ONLY DEATH METAL mattered. There are a lot of tallened muscians in other forms of music, and actually, there's A LOT of shitty Metal bands! So I balance my music more these days, and don't restrict myself to just DEATH. So there you go. Have a DARK DAY.

legitimacy of cover bands, I think
we can all agree that a cover
band up against an originals
band is just silly. Yeah, there are
some great cover bands, but I
think it's an "apples to oranges"
kind of comparison.

You gotta go with either all cover
bands, or all original bands. Or
create catergories.

Ron & Fez will do it right. They
are down with the cause.

There's already an Rf.net band. We're pretty good.

I think we ought to have more of a rf.net festival. That way, we can trade players without any conflict of interest.

It should be open to any band, any style. 
If you play Death, or thash, thats fine... You play alternative, thats fine... 
bands should be judged on overall preformance, and maybe have other sub categories.. like stage presence, songs... etc....
