I shake a lot. My hands have this slight tremor all the time. I'm wondering if its from paxil, or if its the start of parkinsons from all the ecstasy i did a few years ago. i brought it up to my shrink at my last visit, but he dropped it and didnt tell me why it could be happening. any insight? i've also been getting twitches (like little minispasms) in my leg for a few weeks now.

I shake when I'm on Paxil and when I was on Zoloft. It's a side effect. You should become a background dancer on the Rolling Stones' Shakey Fingers tour. Me, I just advertise it as another sexual ability.

Missy,
I dont take paxil or any other prescription meds, but I too have a condition called tremor. I often worry about it being the start of parkinsons. Hordeking had some good answers about it (non prescription related) here:

Perhaps he knows more about the paxil tremor connection...

I tremled quite a bit when I was on Paxil. I'm surprised your shrink just blew your question off. That's not good!

I've been on Effexor for about 3 months now and I get tremors from time to time. But then again, even before I started the meds I would get the shakes in my hands or mini-spasms in my leg once in a while. I also thought it would lead up to being Parkinsons later on in life. Maybe it's stress?

I'm thinking about seeing a neurologist anyway... I did so much ecstasy that I'd like to see a picture of my brain. The thing that really makes me nervous is the twicthes in my leg - they almost seem like a mini seizure. But then again, I'm one of the most paranoid people out there so its probably just from the paxil :)

i have horrible hand tremors (anyone who has seen been drink a beer knows this). they strated from back when i was on lithium and for some reason i still have them, possibly because i am on synthroid for a thyroid imbalance (isn't everyone?) there are times when they are so bad that i can't grip anything with my hands.
i don't really have any advice for you though. if you don't know why you have them, and can afford the doctor, maybe you should get it checked out

AMB - According to the Paxil website, the most frequent side effects are: "Nausea, somnolence, sweating, tremor, asthenia, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia and male sexual dysfunction (primarily ejaculatory delay)."
However, in clinical trials 8.3% of people described feelings akin to tremors while only 1.9% of people receiving placebo reported this effect.
Since this was measured by subjective patient response I don't know what external validity it has. It is pretty clear though, that more than 1 in 100 people reported convulsions or tremors and that appears to me to be significant.
I don't understand why your shrink ignored your question. You should definitely press him or her on this and don't stop asking until you receive a satisfactory answer.
A trip to your doctor is also indicated b/c tremors can come from many different places (Mine come from two sources, the spine and separately the brain (from epilepsy.)
Twitches, tremors, convulsions, tics etc are potentially serious and should be addressed as soon as possible.

I have always had the "shakes", but since I started taking my paxil...It's been 10 times worse.

I get the shakes now and then. Mostly from bad circulation, but I'm sure doing a boatload of LSD, ecstasy, pot, coke, liquor and whetever else I could get my hands on in my younger years is a major factor.

this is why it scares me to go back on medication, I know the feelings your going through Missy I was too when I was on Prozac. But Im not in need for anti anxiety/depresant, Im in need for A stimulant, but its the whole fear of side effects and a fear of what these drugs can do to my body in future years, granted there FDA aproved and all, but still something worries me. But Im sure its nothing horrible Missy so dont worry, talk to the Doc and get it checked out like HK mentioned.

Honestly, do you drink a lot of coffee or drinks with caffeine in them?

I used to drink a lot of caffeine (iced tea) but for about a year now, I only drink water, juice and a cup of coffee in the morning. Its probably from the meds, considering what everyone else has told me, but a visit to the doctor couldn't hurt (I have kickass insurance through my job, so it won't cost me anything)
I'm really really suprised there haven't been any michael j fox jokes in this thread yet

Forget Michael J. Fox, tremors, seizures or convulsions can be indicative of major problems with your nervous system and should get checked out.
