Okey, I'm so surprised that no one has posted this topic yet, but what are everyone's favorites?

My favorite was something we called "Scatter". It had one ball, and everyone in the whole class was out for themselves. Whoever got the ball just tried to knock people out of the game, so most of the time the entire class was just running from one end of the gym to the other...it was great! :)

Besides Dodgeball (the obvious one), we also played "Catch", which was mentioned on the show, which was dodgeball except if someone caught a ball, their eliminated teammates all came back in.

We also played Four-Square (an awesome blacktop game), trench ball(the cones dodgeball game), steal the sticks, kickball, wiffle-ball, stickball, and those weird relays where you had to jump over ropes and run backwards and stuff like that. :)

ANyone else have any favorites ?

If I may be ghetto for a moment, "Four Square" rocked the motherfucking hiz-ouse. It also makes for a great card game.

Anytime we broke out the scooters (the small square boards with wheels on them, I think Ron mentioned them) or the Parachute, it was a good day in gym.

However, my favorite game would have been Jai Alai. Those unfamiliar with it, the game is much like catch with a goal, except with the ball moving at speeds upwards of 9,000 miles per hour and you get special ball-catching devices so your hand doesn't tear from your arm while catching it. I had some kind of idiot savant way about me when I played that game. I could catch a bullet and lob it into the goal before you know what hit you. And I was a little fat kid who couldn't make it up the gym rope back then, so this was an accomplishment.

At recess, we had rock fights, similar to the Palestinians taking on the Israeli Police.

I loved dogeball the best. Using your friends as human shields, catching a ball with one hand, tailing a girl in her fat cheeks (you know which ones). It was like sex, but without all the touching.

gym class

dodge ball
kick ball
crab ball -- like soccer with a huge ball and you had to lay on your back and kick or punch the ball into the goal
hand ball
street hockey -- remember those horrible plastic sticks
flag football

recess
tv tag
freeze tag
hide and go seek

Four Square was just so good...it's hard to compare it to anything else. Freeze tag! I totally forgot about that one...talk about a useless game. I always used to get in trobule for tripping people. :)

And volleyball-wise, i was never able to master "the bump" I'm a good setter and spiker though :) And my serve is killer.

did you guys ever have a thing called field day? Its like a day of elementary school where you just have gym class all day long out side and the two or three classes from each grade compete against each other in various relay races...:::sigh:::i miss field day

duck duck goose was the big game in kindergarten...

Field day was the elementary school olympics. They were great the little ribbons you won.

relay races
discus
marathon races around all of the back stops

do kids even do that stuff any more or is competition bad for kids these days someones feelings might get hurt. lol

did your schools have those giant rope nets you would climb.. those were fun, much better and easier than climbing ropes.. i am suprised no kids killed themselves climbing to the roof it seemed so high back then.

another thing during lunch recess if it rained we would split up the gym half to watch movies -- cartoons or 3 stooges or the other side to play sports or what ever.

Butts Up was the best.

Throw a ball against a wall, try and catch it, if you miss it you have to run and tag the wall before you get pegged in the back of the head.

That was the best!!!!

Kill the Carrier!

That was a variation of football (only with no teams and many more rules). Whomever had the ball was attacked by everyone else.

Another favorite recess activity, was called "Let the air out of the teacher's tires." NOTE TO KIDS: Don't ever do that.

I came up with this mental image while chatting with a person who probably wouldn't want it known that he talks to me (Sunndoggy8):

Imagine giving a retard a jump rope.

Tell me that's not the funniest idea ever? We have to organize this and sell tickets to it.

Dodgeball was the best. (that f'n parachute was the worst).

Another game I liked you might not know of (I don't even know the name of it):
You have a starting point at one of the the gym, and a cone at the other. Broke up into 2 teams and the players would pair up. Two at a time would have to run to and around the cone and back up to the starting point, while the other team has a ball and they have to peg you before you get back. After all the players from both teams had their turn, the team w/ the most safe returners won.

Wow I'm flattered, you of all people telling me that I'm disturbing. I'm impressed that I can disturb the disturbed.
Field day was the best. we had gold and blue teams because those were the colors of the flags we wore around our waist. We would have field day all day and I remember the italian ice and hot dogs too!

http://members.aol.com/lqqieee/images/fmb.jpgPiddlers and BJQs do it better....There you are you sexy thang...come love me darling.

Dammit I knew you couldn't keep it a secret! I thought I could trust you to keep our secret?! And what of our love child? (crys) J/k Pooter, you're cool in my book :)
another thing during lunch recess if it rained we would split up the gym half to watch movies -- cartoons or 3 stooges or the other side to play sports or what ever.

Those days were so weird! WHy they would do that I don't know. Gym class movies weren't all that educational.

The best thing about Field Day though was watching teachers and other non-athletic faculty try and attempt to play games and act like they were cool in the sunlight! haha :)

And Raul, our love child, will just have to serve us shirtless as we planned.

We always played punch ball in the school yard either during lunch or gym. When in the older grades you pretty much controled the school yard. We didn't throw rocks at each other, we threw chestnuts instead. They hurt real good.

During Phys. Ed.: dodgeball and street hockey

During recess with no adult supervision: Combat Basketball-pretty much no rules. Tackling was encouraged, and on black top, no less.
