EWW ON Unions!!!!!!

Im trying to get jobs in theatres in the city and finding out that most of them are monopolies.

ALL of the theatres on braodway are ownded by three companies- nedelander, shubert, and another one I cant remember right now- and anyway, they only hir within their own juresdiction PLUS you have to be UNION!!

so i walk to the union and the guy at the union tells me the stagehands union is so hard to get into that you literally have to have spomeone leave you there spot in their will!!!

then he suggested i do what most of the "ladies" do and join the ticket sellers union BUT the only way id get into that union was if i married a man in the union! ticket sales!? UHM NO, I want to play with the power tools please. Marry into the union? whatever happened to skills and hardwork!?!

I was just hoping youd have any information or kind words on ANY OTHER WAYS i can get into IATSE local one out of manhattan.

At the outset, you should speak to a different union representative. Being told you have to "marry into" the union is bullshit to start. It even raises questions of legality.

Keep speaking to people untill you find a rep who will actually help you and not discourage you.
