I grew up in Oyster Bay. Houses on my old street are starting well over $300,000. I saw one a few blocks from my old house going for $750,000!! Long Island real estate is outrageous. I could never afford to live there again (believe me, I'd NEVER live there again!).

Jonkeu, its funny that you bring up this topic, you wouldnt of been listening to a Local Long Island Rock and Roll radio station this morning would you? And yes Prices of houses are sickening on LI, on top of that Prices in some towns might be going up again due to the school budget voting on LI today. My freind recently bought a house in Albany for aprox. $108,000. It has 3 rooms, 2 beds, 2 baths, full basement. In comaparison a house on LI like that would sell for OVER 400K. I dont know about you but as soon as I can afford to, Im getting off Long Island!!! Unless Suzzi gets Nassau County under controll and out of Debt

Just to show how fucked up economics are up here, I have a friend who is one month older than I <26 years old>...he moved to Port Richie, Florida about 2 1/2 years ago...he now owns 2 houses which are next door to each other...and total cost? $100,000...

If I didn't hate Florida so much, I'd be renting his house for 25% less than I'd pay for an apartment here...

$100,000
my 2 bedroom apartment in suffolk is worth more than that. ofcourse, if it were anywhere else it would be worth half that.

the bubble has to break sometime

Westchester is the absolute worst. You can't buy a house for less than $400000. My rent for my 2-bedroom apartment is $1450/month and I pay for all utilities too (including heat) and thats considered CHEAP. My fiance had an apartment in Albany and the rent for a 2 bedroom was $400. ITS CRAZY
