what are the most recent albums you've bought and how are they? recommendations?
i dont know if this is a good idea or not, but it could be helpful for people if they were trying to decide whether or not to buy something.. we'll see, i guess...
i've gotten 3 new cds recently:
voltaire, boohoo - it's good, but not as good as his past two albums, "the devil's briss", and "almost human". he does cover bjork's "bachelorette", though, which rocks
the good life, black out - this is a really good album. the singer has an interesting way of singing that i know some people find annoying, but i think it's great. worth getting
bright eyes, there is no beginning to the story ep - wonderul, fabulous, amazing, excellent. this is a 4 song ep, 1 of which will be on the new bright eyes album, "the story in the soil", which comes out in the fall. everyone should have bright eyes, including this one... the song "messenger bird" is one of the most beautifully sad things i have ever heard. must have

If you didnt buy them but downloaded them does it still count??
Cold- Cold....Good stuff..Singer has a sound like Staind, but sings into a synth which is kinda annoying..i'd give it a 7
Also recent was the 12 Stones album...Really good. Switches between hard rock and melody. Sounds like Creed meets Papa Roach without the rap.
Great....Grand...Wonderful

So does it sound like Pearl Jam or Stone Temple Pilots? lol
I just heard the White Stripes album, and I love it...Thursday's new one is pretty good...but the one I need to hear is the Breeders!!! I can't wait...
BTW-anyone get the Girls Against Boys album?

I just heard the White Stripes album, and I love it...i assume you are talking about "white blood cells"? that is a great album.. if you're digging the white stripes, their previous album, "de stijl", is also really excellent and worth picking up. the self titled album is good, as well, but doesnt have the same effect for me as the other two...

Wilco-Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
Great album...One of those albums you can lay in bed and fall asleep to. The acoustic guitars and soothing vocals make for an album that any Beck or Radiohead fan will love.

shatzi - fifty reasons to explode... this is a really good album, i'm impressed. they're sort of pop punk like, but not quite so poppy as, say, a blink 182 or green day. crunchy guitars, catchy hooks, pretty much what you would expect from this kind of band. it's a fun listen, worth picking up

I just recieved both new Tom Waits albums, "Alice" (obviously an entire album dedicated to our own Fuzzybutt) and "Blood Money", from our very own Gvac and Tazz, respectively...and may I say...AMAZING.
Any self-respecting Tom Waits fan should not be without either album..."Alice" consists mainly of Waits' forlorn romantic side, while "Blood Money" evokes that whole dark carnival atmosphere of past songs like "Signapore". Each album has a small taste of what can be found on the other, but there's no way I could justify buying only one.

New Found Glory:Sticks and Stones Your heroes of pop punk are back with this release.Typical and easily digested for kiddies of all ages.

The Promise Ring: Wood/Water A mellow masterpiece....The hooks are still there and it makes for an easy listen. This is a great album that will be overlooked. Piebald:We Are The Only Friends We Have A great emo/indie/rock band with another great release....again easily digestable, you'll be singing along in no time.

I agree Megadeth, Down's new one was good. And I will check out Black Label Society on your recommendation.
I WASTED like 18 bucks on Korn's new album. I LOVED their single, but just about EVERY other song is filler. I gave it a FAIR CHANCE, and it SUCKS! So unless you're a BIG Korn fan, pass this one up.
I just did recently buy the newest Mortician album. They ROCK! Check them out!

While I had to buy my own copies, I must wholeheartedly agree. Both albums are great. Ive ad Table top Joe stuck in my head for two weeks. If you like Tom Waits, go buy these albums right now,you won't be dissappointed.
Super Joint Ritual - If you like te hard stuff, you can't go wrong. Phil alsamo (sp?) from Pantera's side project and it kicks ass from beginning to end.
And for you hiphop hads out there: SoundBombing 3!
The Roots featuring Talib Kwalie is worth the price of admission alone. Another solid outing from Rawkus Records.

mercury rev, all is dream - a very cool album. somewhat reminiscent of grandaddy, although i think mercury rev is a much better band. somewhat mellow, but it's kind of very grand... the arrangements and all. the only warning - get ready for a man with an extremely high voice. if that sort of thing gets on your nerves (which i know it does to some people), this isn't the album for you
february, tomorrow is today - this is a fun album. there is a pretty decent range in genre between the songs, from a sort of letters to cleo style pop thing to like an almost dancy thing. i generally dont go for female singers, but this chick's not bad. her voice reminds me of something between kay hanley and natalie merchant. i'd say worth hearing at least

I saw the new Goldfinger video this morning. What a piece of propaganda. They use the video to push their ideologies against corporate propaganda and "societal norms."

Steve Earle -- SideTracks -- this is basically a collection of some songs that he's done for movies, compilation albums, foriegn releases, etc. It is as usual, worlds above anything anyone else is doing these days. The man is a savant!
There's a great cover of Nirvana's "breed" on the album, a cover of Dylan's "my back pages" :) and also a duet with sheryl crow on the chamber's brother's classic "time has come today"
i highly recommend this album!!

Welcome to a world where music has meaning.A world where musical artists use their medium to express ideas. Hell, most bands dont get their videos played on MTV, so why not get a message out there while you do? Not everything has to be mindless my friend.

Halford - Crucible - No surprises here. You get what you pay for. Harder, heavier and edgier that Halford's previous studio offering. There are two bonus tracks - She and Fugitive - which are only supposed to be available on the initial pressings of the album. Metal heads will not be disappointed.

Nashville Pussy - Say Something Nasty - Good, straight ahead hard rock and roll. AC/DC meets Molly Hatchet with Lemmy Kilmister lite on vocals. A fun album that's worth a listen.

I never said the music had any meaning. Want music with meaning? Listen to Don Henley. All I said was that they were trying to push their views on uninformed teens who don't know enough to think on their own yet.

My vote goes to Robert Randolph and the Family, Live at Wetlands. I don't know how new it is, but holy shit, if you love
1. The Blues
2. Getting your ass kicked right through your speaker
This is the album for you. He invokes memories of SRV, but in his own unique way, not like that Kenny Wayne Shepard clone. I haven't had an experience like this in music since hearing OK Computer.

All I said was that they were trying to push their views on uninformed teens who don't know enough to think on their own yet.
on behalf of uninformed teens who cant think on their own i would like to say that while i listen to music videos and watch what they are saying doesn't mean that its going to change how i feel about something, and chances are that no one is watchin MTV for that video anyway considering that retarded network is overrun by rap, pop and its own original programming, if your into to just the music i suggest MTV2 and not all of us young people are incapable of thinking on our own despite what some of the general public may think.
Oh and heres a review :)
Glassjaw- Worship and Tribute- the CD is due in stores on July 9th but i have burned half of it(all i could find) if you were into the stuff they used to do you may be in for a shock because this cd does seem to be a lil more mellow, but you need not worry, the vocals, music and production elements have all improved drasticly and anyone who is a fan of bands like Taking Back Sunday or Coheed and Cambria will probbably wanna check this out. I'll even go as far as to say that fans of bands like staind might wanna download a couple of songs before you purchase the cd but they may just like it. tommorow i will have a review of Mike Malamo's (former lead singer of long island emo band "Inside") new band "Dearly Departed" i'll review their 5 song demo that was released right at the end of june.

well, it's not really new, but...
i just got vagrant records, another year on the streets vol 2. it's excellent! it's got songs from alkaline trio, the anniversary, audio learning center, dashboard confessional, face to face, the get up kids, hey mercedes, hot rod circuit, the new amsterdams, no motiv, rocket from the crypt, saves the day, and viva death. very fun indeed. if you like any of those bands at all, it's worth checking out the rest of them. good good good

FINCH "what it is to burn"
this is an interesting listen....somewhere between nu-metal and pop-punk....one song is pure pop punk and the next is a somewhat noisy-scremo type song.Fans of the Deftones later material might like this band.

the walkmen - everyone who pretended to like me is gone... damn, this is a freaking great album. i just got it and wow wow wow. it rocks, but not like anything i've really heard before... the music has a really haunting element to it. i read a review in which they were compared to velvet underground, joy division, and early u2. these are all valid comparisons, but there's something else. this is a great album... definitely people should check them out

bright eyes: lifted or the story is in the soil, keep your ear to the ground - i just got my copy tonight and i've got to say... this album is absolutely AMAZING. it just reaffirmed for me why bright eyes is hands down my favorite band. there's quite a bit of stylistic diversity on this album, none of the songs really have the same sound as the others, which i appreciate. the lyrics, as ever, are amazing... but there's a little more hope than in some past bright eyes songs. i read an article in which one of the songs, waste of paint was called "epic". and lover i dont have to loveis one of the sexiest things i have ever heard... definitely my new get your f on song... everyone should get this album, but only few will...

I ended up getting a copy of this three weeks early. Old Snapcase fans beware.......Not as aggressive but really dosent stray far from that trademark Snapcase sound.I'm proud to have it in my CD player.

Atreyu:Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses

A great album from a relatively new band.Very aggressive without being overly noisy. An emocore, sweedish metal, hardcore three way collision.
