Question concerning the "M" word

It seems there is selective enforcement of the FCC regulations. Ron&Fez CANNOT say the word "masturbation", while other shows use the word with impunity(without punishment) such as Brother Wheeze's Sunday show 2 weeks ago. He had an entire SONG about masturbation. This was on WNEW's airwaves. I'm certainly not complaining but why the discrimination with The Reef? Do you mean to tell me that they can't even discuss "news" (like the masturbating mugger) without using cutsie little baby talk? If this topic was discussed allready I apoligize. This censorship stuff just burns me up.

As far as I know, the FCC doesn't say: "You can't say this word, this word, and that word." They say that stations can't be profane or obscene. Masturbation is on the borderline and it's up to the station to decide if it wants to take the risk. WNEW's management and lawyers are more pussy than K-Rocks and Brother Weeze's, as far as I can tell. ALSO, there is a difference between prime time and late night and weekends. I think the lawyers are more apt to allow something when no one's listening. But, they know O&A and R&F are being watched.

Also, I think the reason Bro Weeze can get away with it is simply because no one is there to dump. They send the tape (or whatever) to WNEW and WNEW just plays it as is. Unlike during the week when there is a dumpguy on the button all day. It's more the fact that no one is enforcing the lawyer's rules on weekends, as far as I can tell.

Ed is leaving out the funniest part of this story. I caught a couple minutes of Wheeze that day. The song in question was Masturbation, to the tune of the Macarena. The song itself was from the O&A show (Wheeze credited the entire thing to Opie, when it's Ant's voice on the tape), but O&A aren't allowed to play the song they wrote and recorded.

there's always a dump guy there..even when it's just best of replays..just in case someone misses something...

there may be different rules for the weekends i'm not sure. but i do know that alot of words get by because the dump guy isn't paying attention or most of all DOESN'T KNOW THE RULES. especially the RF dump guy.

I find it obscene that censorship of this form exists in America.

Part of our Puritinical cuture to see evil and the devil in any type of sexuality. If we were really concerned about kids, we wouldn't be worried about whether they hear the word penis or masturbation, we'd be worried about the predators who have been molesting them with impunity. I'd bet that every one of the pedophile priests was a big advocate of censorship to "protect the kids."

BTW there has never been any study that shows that exposing even the youngest of children to sexual terms has any negative impact on them. Many studies have shown that children who do not know about sex or are naiive about it are more likely to get pregnant and stds. They're also at greater risk of being abused if they lack the descriptive terms to advise a concerned adult.
