I gave my number to this guy I met in the city on Wednesday night- and he finally called me last night and left me a message.

That's WAY over the three day rule.
Now I don't think Im going to call him back- not only because of that.. for other reasons too.. but it made me think... how long do you wait to call people? and how many days is too late as far as calling them back?

It was a holiday weekend, maybe he went away and had other stuff to take care of. It's kinda like 3 working days. COunt it as a strike against him, but I wouldnt totally blow him off just because of that.

3 day rule? i used to work on the 48 hours rule.

a week is too long. if he was tring to be cool he blew it. Even Elvis wasn't that cool.

What "rule"? If you two are interested in each other, isn't that what matters? There are any number of reasons why he didn't call "in time". Why don't you ask him if you call?

Oh geez...the RULES again. Listen up women: WE DONT KNOW THE RULES, OK??? If u like him, call him. If there are "other reasons" not to like him--dont call him. There's only one "rule" that men understand, and thats the "3 date rule." Thank you.

Screw the "rules" Anna..follow what your heart says. You never know what's going on in someone else's life. Don't cast him off just beacuse of a silly dating rule. Call him, go out and have fun. Maybe it'll work out, maybe it won't but at least you gave it a shot and had some fun in the meantime. Richie called me the night we met as soon as he got home...and while a relationship didn't work we're still great friends. I had another guy call me 3 years later!! lol I dated him for 10 months. men are weird :p

i dont really subscribe to the "rules" or anything, but a week is kind of long for someone you just met and dont really know. on the other hand, it's not like he waited a month, and you really dont know the reasons why he might have waited as long as he did. that alone is not really enough of a reason to get rid of him. barring other, more compelling reasons, i think you should give the poor boy a shot. i mean, you liked him enough to give him your number, right?

call him back and throw your rule book out...any number of things could've happened in that time...death in the family, car accident, etc.

dont be selfish...he called...that's what counts...

that 3 day rule thing is just retarded. if you like somebody and want to get to know them, why waste time? but, as most people have said, he called, and that's what counts. who cares how long it took? it was a long weekend and i'm sure he had other things going on.

Perhaps the rules shouldnt apply here. Always try new things, different perspectives...they will produce new results and experiences. Is better to try and fail then never to try at all...

Well that is for one of two reasons. One the guy is either trying to make up for something that he probably feels guilty about. Realizes that he had a great time with you and would like to give it a second shot and what could potentially be a long and loving relationship due to the mistakes that you learned from being together before. You will be stronger both in communications and experiences.

or two, it was his attempt at a booty call...

See, the point of the 2 day rule is so the guy doesn't seem overanxious. Like some stalker calling 5 times the night he meets you, leaving answering machine message after answering machine message. It was a 3 day weekend. Maybe he went away and wanted to call you as soon as he got back. Give the guy a chance.

what if the guy ask you when would be a goodtime to call? i personally like that.. that way i can be prepared for the call when it comes. and it also erases all these problems... chances are, unless something catastrophic happens, you know when he's calling and can find out off the bat if he's reliable... i think it's good

Its not like I LIKE HIM- I dont even KNOW him... thats why I gave him my cell phone number. We met for like two seconds, talked- and I had to go so I threw him my digits.

But he did ask when would be a good time to call, and when i gave him the day and times that Im home, he didnt call during any of them. He called at 10:30 that night, whcihever nite that was.. tuesday I think.

And its not like I sit there and go through guys checkbooks or anything its just that YES< it does seem a lil long for somebody you dont know to get back to you.

I DID CALL HIM BACK. Got his voicemail- and he called back and invited me to go out for coffee- that very night- in fact this night- in fact in about 3 hours, but thats way short notice and I declined (NOT just for those reasons, I actually have to do a family thing tonite)

But that was quite a bit to wait and I dont wanna be just someone he decided he would call because he was bored and had no one else to call.
