Amy- That happens to me too. It takes me forever to fall asleep. For me it's a mixture of two things.
1. I take some precription medicine everyday (no, i'm not crazy...lol) and not being able to sleep or light sleeping is a side effect. So that affects me, but I had the problem before I started taking my medicine.
2. I worry/think WAY too much. The reason I really can't fall asleep even if I'm exhausted is because I'm obsessing about something in my mind that I have no control over. I have learned to clear my mind more and it has helped.

I don't know if either of these things apply to u, but just thought I'd tell ya. Oh yeah, and some good self lovin at night will help you fall right to sleep too! :)

Being tired all day long can be caused by sleeping in too much. It is possible to be tired from too much sleep. Try getting up at a specific time, maybe a little earlier than usual. That will probably help you at the end of the day too.

Another thing is your eating schedule. If you get up say around 11:00 and don't really have any kind of meal until around 6:00 that night, then that's the first source of energy your body is receiving and that's when you'll probably be the most awake. Not to mention, after the 6:00 hour there isn't much physical activity so it takes the body much longer to digest. That would probably keep you up a little longer too.

If at first you don't succeed, try another girl!!

Go for the self lovin' too. Knocks me right out. It works really well......until you start falling asleep before you can clean yourself up. And then it takes you a half hour to drag yourself AND your matress (which is welded to you at this point) to the shower to get cleaned up. But I'm not speaking from personal experience of course.

If at first you don't succeed, try another girl!!

i used to be like that too until i realized i was wasting my life away by sleeping in constantly. Now I set an alarm to go off at a decent hour and now have a pretty normal sleeping pattern and don't have trouble sleeping at night. I also get more done in a day with those few extra hours :)

Amy- It sounds like your "internal clock" is screwed up. When I was working evenings back a while ago, I had to adjust everything. I would get tired near the end of my shift and still had a 30 minute commute home. I switched to days, and getting up on time was a bear, and I felt tired all day. If you stick to a regular schedule, your body should adjust. It's probably due to all the late parties and such :)

AMY - We discussed this offline, but I'll sum up for the benefit of others.

Three factors afffect your sleeping (or lack thereof).

1. You must be comfortable where you sleep, i.e., feel like you belong there. If you don't it will be hard to relax and lower your guard and sleep.

2. You need to be physically comfortable. Your mattress sucks - get a new one.

3. Disturbing thoughts or unresolved issues can be so intrusive that they may prevent you from sleeping.

Although they are not easy tasks (except number 2) the sooner you confront them, the better off you will be and the sooner you will be able to sleep.

It could also be your diet. Make sure it's balanced and you eat a lot of protein (meat, fish, peanut butter, dairy, peanut butter) and not too many carbohydrates and fats. Carbohydrates tend to put you to sleep if they are not used as energy through exercise. I find that if I eat a salad, I'm a little more alert for some reason.
