Most of my headaches come from slight dehydration. I drink a thing of water and take a couple of aspirin. Stress, emotional and physical, can also cause headaches. Allergies can also do the trick.

I consider myself the "queen of headaches" - get them all the time. I carry aspirin with me all the time.
I get them from: deli meats (the nitrates in them), wine, flashing lights, stress, premenstral, lack of sleep, to name a few.

AG - What you're refering to is a "concussion" not a headache (although a concussion can hurt like hell). During the concussion the brain bounces around the skull and gets banged up quite a bit. Fortunately, the symptoms usually are short lived.

All kinds of things can cause headaches.

On one axis is tertiary headaches related to medical conditions which may include bleeding, tumor, or infection inside the skull, or by diseases of the teeth, eyes, or sinuses. Flu or any sickness that causes fever can also cause headache.

Then there are the primary headaches where the headache itself is the symptom. These include tension headaches, cluster headaches and migranes.

My understanding is that these headaches are related to electrical and chemical instability of certain areas of the brain that regulate blood vessels around the head and the neck, as well as the flow of pain messages into the brain. This is siimilar to that which causes seizure disorders and like seizure disorders, these headaches can be treated by using drugs that stabilize brain chemistry, including our old friend seretonin.

Headaches are caused by insufficient sex. At least, that's what I told my ex wife every time she complained of one.

Oddly enuff, it seemed to work!

there is another reason for headaches not yet mentioned.

you may want to have your eyes checked.

I was getting TERRIBLE headaches for a while, but after i got glasses it relieved the stress on my eyes, and my headaches dissapeared.

TOM - I mentioned the eyes!

Still they deserve special mention vis a vis adjusting prescription strength instead of just focusing on diseases of the eye and occular nerve.
