View Full Version : There are honest people out there!
Last week I was so upset - I forgot my pocketbook - I left it on the bench at the train station as I had a whole bunch of things I was carrying. In my pocketbook was $3,000. worth of checks (I know it was stupid to carry them around, and I learned by lesson); credit cards, money, license, registration, car and house keys.
While talking to some guys on the train, they advised me to give my name and number to all the businesses in the area and to also check the garbage pails nearby as most people don't want to be caught carrying the bag and just take the money.
Anyhow, I was frantic. I was thinking about everything that could be done with my identification, checks, and my social security number was also in my purse.
The next day I went down to the bank that was in the area, and the teller told me that some guy turned in my pocketbook earlier that day.
Everything was in it but my cash. I didn't care that the cash was gone. That was the least of my troubles.
There are honest people out there.

I'm glad everything turned out ok for you, but did you report the loss to the police? If, God forbid, this should happen to you again or anyone else on the board, in addition to all that Coco did, report it to the cops. We're here for a reason.

Yes I reported to the police. They were very nice.
One thing I did right away was to call my credit card companies.
Once, years ago, I was in a mall paying for something and gave the clerk my credit card. I was interrupted with something else and she never gave back my card. She then handed it off to someone else. Within minutes this person was charging hundreds of dollars worth of stuff on my card. I didn't know the card was missing until I saw my next statement.

How much of the cash was missing? Even though the person was honest enough to give it back, they did take the cash...

About $30.00, but this was nothing compared to the fact that the person could have tried to cash the $3000 worth of checks I had in there.
I thought it was impossible to try and cash someone else's check, but my friend was telling me someone cashed her paycheck once. She thinks they probably knew someone working at the bank.

Glad to hear that you got your
purse back. That must have been
scary, not knowing if someone
would turn it in. You were lucky
tat only $30.00 was taken.

Ok so Saturday I went out to queens to hang out with a freind. Long story short, the night came to an end, and I hoped in a cab to Jamaica. Not Relizing it my cell phone must have dropped out of my pocket onto the seat. I only realized that I had lost it later that night when I was one stop away from home. So at this point I thought Id never see my cell phone again! SO yesterday I went out to run some erans, after I came back to my parents house and my stepmother says to me that its my lucky day! The cab driver found my cell phone and Called bassically EVERYBODY in my phone book trying to get in touch with me. So I called the guy back and gave him directions to my house. I 1000% tried to give him 20 bucks just as a nice thank you, and the guy tottally refused even after I threw the money on his passenger seat. He told me he didnt do it for the money, just to be honest. I told him sincerely how the world needs more honest people like him!
