at 5 am this morning a guy came into my hotel, i recognized him he use to stay at my hotel during 9-11 he stayed for a month he was a relief worker, we threw im out then cause he is a drunk and harrassed a delivery man for my hotel. he came back drunk and asked if i could put his suit jacket in the dryer...well i checked my computer and he is not a guest (thank god) so i told him i am sorry i cant he got pissed off and said i am gonna get coffee he went into the kitchen and started to make cofee i went in after him and told him you cant come in here and you will have to leave please, he said "fuck you ass hole do you know how much money we invested coming to help you people here in this city for that crap" I said i am asking you to leave for the last time, he then took the hot coffee in his hand threw it at my chest and face and at that time my 60 year old bellman came out of nowhere in between us and started to take him away now I was losing it then i was gonna kill this son of a bitch and i was about to throw but held back then he pushd my bellman aside and landed a right cross to my face cutting my lip, well my bellman carried him out. I asked him why he did it and he said if i hit him i would of lost my job and since there is alread a lawsuit against em and my hoel for a previous fight i had with a drugged up drunk woman beater he said i could not do anything...was I right for really holding back? I mean i am now a little burnt and cut now but i so wanted to kick his ass.
did I do the right thing?

I would have to say that yuou did the right thing, although I understand your wanting to pummel his face into oblivion. But look at it this way, you probably would be regretting it if you did beat him and thenhad to spend the next few weeks unemployed cause of giving in to your anger. The hotel is wrong in not backing up its workers in my opinion. If a worker is put into that sort of situation, there should be an allowance for self-defense.

Were the cops called in and charges pressed is what I have to ask??

SB: I am not sure if you like working at the hotel, and if you do, that is o.k., but know that a lot of hotels are generally magnets for prostitutes, drifters, drug dealers, spouse cheaters, etc. Just give some thought to the fact that there are nicer places to work.

Sexy, you can stop second guessing yourself. You did the right thing.

He instigated a confrontation by going into the private area than by throwing coffee at you. When he punched you, (especially in front of a witness) you would have been justified in using reasonable force to defend yourself. However, it seems that immediately, the bellman picked him up and took him away.

If you went after him, you could actually face criminal and civil charges. Then it becomes a jury issue to determine if you were defending yourself after the threat was removed or whether the danger was still present. (The law is an ass).

Your ability to approach the situation calmly and rationally saved you a lot of potential grief.

and coco I said hotel and not motel, big difference and my hotel is nice place good people lots of corporate people and is a very well known 4 1/2 star hotel

well almost 9 months after this situation happened i got a call from the new york police department from the detective who got my case. The guy was found and arrested. I had to go down to Midtown south and identify him it was very easy to recognize his ugly mug. well i picked him out of the pictures they showed me and he has been officially charged. he has been living in brooklyn and still working down at ground zero. the reason it took so long to find him was all his paperwork and mail kept going to a P.O. box and they had to go thru alot of stuff to get the warrant for him once they found his P.O. box. next step now is i have to wait for the District Attorneys office to call me and we will go from there. hey like the old saying goes. better late then never.

sexy bastard, I'm glad it worked out in the end. I worked in hotels for over ten years and you get assholes and low-lifes on Park Ave as at the Chelsea. Horde King was 'right-on' with his advise because it was explained to me the same way after a similar situation. Although I was never assaulted, I was waiting for the son-of-a-bitch to hit me so I could pummel him.

Leo, don't be upset because some jerk-off caught you by surprise.
You did the right thing as manager of that hotel.
You acted calmly and let someone else handle the situation.
It's very difficult having to stand around and have someone slap you in the face and then walk away, scratch-free. You'd think they got their way in that situation, but trust me, they would be happier having seen you lose your job and be miserable for more than just that one week that the memory and anger would last.

I hope you're doing okay, and maybe this just means you need more security at this hotel.
Or next time, don't ask him to leave too many times, ask once and then kick his ass out.
