Ok last night after working all day and then finishing four hour class for the night. I go to my (volunteer)firehouse to chill and take a few to get a breather. We were on call for another department cause they were attending wake services for one of the victims of 9/11 (He was a volunteer in addition to being a city fireman).

Anyways, we get a call in there district on the Palisades Parkway, with a "request for lights" between two exits. This is a heavily wooded area. And the details of our being called out was to go to a scene of an accident where the driver or any passengers are not in the car. The police are thinking that the driver and any passengers were thrown from the vehicle when it rolled over...we pull up and see this vehicle crashed in a manner that indicates flipping a few times. Myself and a few guys grab flashlights and any other portable light that we can get and head into the woods.

Well it is rainy conditions and the woods are darkened despite all the light we introduce. I am mentally prepared for the worst thinking "Im going to run across a child or even a body part", and am doing a search in swampy water, dense foliage and even a creek that is flowing strong due to rain falls of late. After getting wet looking everywhere that I possibly can and crossing this creek thinking the person got projectiled to the point I was (I was a half mile out at this point), I suddenly am getting called back after an hours worth of searching.

It turns out that it was one dopey bastard and this mother f***er had a friend pick him up and left the car there all mangled. Now keep in mind it is lightning as well last night and we are looking for somebody with the best of hopes being we find them, and after found hopefully there is still a chance that we can save them. This SOB is sitting home on the couch while we are thinking that people are perished. And one of our guys almost got run over directing traffic from some stupid bastard who refused to slow down...I was hoping that when the troopers pulled up they pounded him within every ounce of his life. I mean if I had seen them beating him and knew the reason why I wouldnt have said anything... I know that all of out guys wanted to do so...
