Mine without a doubt would be "Chinatown" by roman Polanski. even though it came after the big era of film noir, its just so freakin' good, every one should watch this movie.

duh. Maltese Falcon - "I hope they don't hang you, precious, by that sweet neck. The chances are you'll get off with life. That means if you're a good girl, you'll be out in 20 years. I'll be waiting for you. If they hang you... I'll always remember you."

double indemnity would've been my runner up. Touch of evil is also very good. Has anyone seen that? Orson Wells is amazing in it.

It's on my short list of films I'm looking for, Hippie. I dig even the small role he had in The Third Man though.

Blood Simple by the Coen Brothers. A great modern film noir.
M. Emmett Walsh & Dan Hedaya - I love everything I've ever seen from these guys, and they are at their best in Blood Simple.

The world is full of complainers. But the fact is, nothing comes with a guarantee. I don't care if you're the Pope of Rome, President of the United States or Man of the Year, something can all go wrong. But go ahead, complain, tell your problems to your neighbor, ask for help, and watch him fly. Now in Russia, they got it all mapped out so that everyone pulls for everyone else. That's the theory anyway. But what I know about is Texas, and down here... you're on your own.

I saw 'A Touch of Evil'. Very good film. Inetresting to see a young Dennis Weaver after seeing him in 'McCloud' on TV for all those years

ooh! ooh! ooh! The Killing! Stanley Kubrick old school. The banter of the Peattys and the weird guy who shoots the horse, the wrestler. Oh, and it's a great story and directing and all that too.

I want to wax intelligent about this movie right now, but I think I'm having an annurism. Watch it and talk amongst yourselves.

while being at best a peripherial noir. my vote goes to The Third Man. Holy shit, what a fucking awesome movie, as good today as in 1947. My runner up is cliche, but nonetheless great, Sunset Boulevard, which is just a downright awesome, spooky movie that influenced seeming everything that came out between 1950-67. And if you are noir fan, check out Steve Martin's "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" the best noir spoof I've come across.

Bon Jovi Fan Since Day ONE!

Can we all have a film noir-a-thon? Pick out all your favorites...someone donate their living room....get a bunch of people, alcohol, popcorn and marijuana together. I would love to get introduced into the world of film noirs.

My two favorites have already been mentioned here...

1) Touch of Evil

You can't deny a movie that's so damn great that it has Charlton Heston playing a Mexican and it ISN'T silly.

2) The Third Man

When Wells gives that smile from the shadows, goddamn.
