The "Baby Voice"

I have a quick question for your highness.

I recently read an article about the "Baby Voice." The phrase describes a phenomena whereby a woman who has been the victim of physical or sexual abuse at a very young age maintains the same voice she had at the time the abuse occurred.

The theory is that the victim's emotional development froze at the time of trauma. In these cases, the victim's voice never develops any adult qualities.

I was wondering what you thought of this theory. Is it pop psychology or is it legit?

At the risk of coming across heavy-handed, this sounds like bunk. It just doesn't make sense...if their voice doesn't change how is it that other physical systems do? And, how many women do you know who sound like kids, keeping in mind there are stats for trauma rates up to 10-15%?? <P>
Related tangent, a baby voice can be viewed as a protective mechanism used to elicit protection (and perhaps sympathy) from others, especially men. But, even assuming that statement as true, to go from that behavior to a presumed causal mechanism is a real stretch. The scientific maxim that comes to mind is

I belive in it caus ei listen to alot of Love line and everytime a 20 year odl chick that calls in and sounds 12 then they work it out and the girl was Fanageld by her uncel when she was 11 or 12

but there also jsut girls who are small and dont have a older woman voice

For some reason, I love those cutesy high-pitched girly voices. I find them attractive, but doubt that I could live with that 24/7. Every time I get a phone call at work from someone with that sort of voice, I smile. I wonder what that says about yours truly..

Basically, SWAN, although I haven't read any research studies on it, I'd agree with Captain Stubing that at the very least it lacks face validity and seems impropable.

Ive heard alot about this and i'll do my best to
answer it, even though im no Horde King...

From what Ive heard on it, this hapens to some
people not because they freeze, but because they
feel like they become inferior after the molestation
takes places. The baby voice is a way for them to
be a lower status to whoever theyre talking to.
It happens in a few situations, not just a rape or
molestation. Anything traumatic can cause it.

But this isn't every case, I know of many people
who have been raped, molested as a child and
used it to make themselves a stronger person.
Obviosly they didnt get affected in the same way
person in the other scenerio did, where they feel
sorry for themselves. But this is just collected
