The purpose of my post is a reminder for us to remember the guys who served our country. And that in a lot of cases, horrendous circumstances that happened years ago, still are as real to a lot of vets as if they happend yesterday.
I was thinking today of my girlfriend's (Roseanne) brother Tommy.
When Tommy got back from Vietnam, Roseanne's mother told Roseanne to take care of him because "he was never the same after coming back from there".
I asked Roseanne what happened. She said that Tommy served on the front in Vietnam. One day there was heavy firing and his best friend stood up and basically "shielded" Tommy from getting killed. His friend was blown up before his eyes. Tommy realized that his best friend saved his life by shielding him in this way.
Tommy never got it together, and probably never will. He keeps a lot to himself, and talks very little of what happened to him.
I'd thought I'd share this story of a truy hero.
