Since Memorial Day coming up which is the start of the summer, I'd like to reflect on my favorite summer past time which is going to carnivals, fairs, amusement parks, festivals and to the boardwalk and going on all the rides. What was your favorite ride and/or favorite summer past time experience?
Mine are:
1. Bumper cars
2. Carousel
3. Twister
4. the motorcycles that went around in a circle like the carousel, and the only thing they did was go up and down but you felt like the coolest thing riding it, unless you had the backseat.
5. the boats that went around in the circle in the smelliest water ever.
6. Himalaya - the music was the best!
7. Log flume
8. Tilt-a-whirl
9. Spider
10. Scrambler
11. all the fun houses and haunted houses.

I love anything and everything about amusement parks. My favorite would have to be the Gyro (it has a different name in every park), which is where they put you in a circular room, spin it around really fast so you stick to the walls, then drop the floor out on it. Some people died on it, so no one goes on anymore. Plenty of room to fuck around.

Plus it does amazing things to women's breasts.

ahh yes I knew it as the Round Up at Great Adventure...I'll never go on that thing again because my friend puked all over the place in there, it was an effin mess!

"The Hellhole" in Coney Island was one of those spinning floor drops down rides but they shut it down because people were always getting killed. I really miss that ride.

Where I grew up in suburban NJ... there was an amusement park like 2 miles away from my house I used to go to called Bertrand's Island Amusement Park. It was a semi-big time Park in the 40's & 50's, but by the late 70's, early 80's it was pretty dilapitated...but still open for businees. They had this rickety old wooden rollercoaster that had been on fire & rebuilt a few times, but before they shut it down, I had the privilege of riding it a few hundred times...I mean this thing was a death trap...but I loved it...
I also remember their old bumper cars with the long pole the touched the ceiling & shot sparks all over the track while you were driving...
They also used to have semi-automatic pellet guns (remember the old "shoot the whole star out" target-games?)

one last piece of useless trivia about Bertrand's Island is that Woody Allen shot a movie there a few years after it closed down...it's since been completely leveled & turned into Townhouses & Estates...

Wow that sounds hauntingly similar to a small amusement park by me in Scotch Plains, NJ called Bowcraft. It was really big in the 50's and 60's but started to go downhill in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Then in 1999 they restored it and now it's booming again. But sometime in the 80s, Demi Moore filmed a movie there.....here's a lil trivia what was the movie called?

I went to Hershey Park last week and it wasn't half bad. I was going to ride one coaster with my friends but we got split up and I had to be the only one to go before and when I got off someone threw a glass bottle onto the tracks causing my friends to get stuck lmao. It wasn't too long though it wasn't like they were stuck on the first climb which btw someone did get stuck on the same day. At hershey they also have those coaster competition where they have 2 coasters race each other and you see each other for most of the ride. So me & my friend gave the other coaster the finger and when they showed the pics after the ride it said "too obscene to show." So be sure to do that at Hershey Park.

This is my kryptonite; the one thing in this world I am incapable of dealing with. I fear no man or beast, but I damn near shit myself just looking at a roller coaster.

I'll never forget the shame I felt when we all headed down to Great Adventure the day after our Junior Prom. I spent the entire day making excuses to my date as to why the arcades were where the real action was at. Finally she could bear no more, and forced me onto the log flume. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I can still hear the "clink-clink-clink" of the gears straining to raise a log full of people 40 feet in the air, where they obviously have no business being. I actually tried to get out at one of the guard posts they have at the top. With that little maneuver I immediately attained wussy status with my date, and needless to say, never heard from her again after we got back home at the end of the day.

Damn you all for forcing me to remember this.

Not that I fear the rides, I just don't trust them and the creepy people who operate them. I always hated the water flume...getting soaked is one thing, but I could swear that the flume ride in Coney Island was also used as a urinal.
