I've always liked De Niro as Michael in The Deer Hunter. He's at the top of his game in that one: from careless, small-town Joe to cold-blooded soldier to bittersweet war vet -- and remains convincing throughout.

Coincidentally, I think the two best things he's done have been outside the movies.

1. Bringing the Tribeca Film Festival to NYC, in the wake of 9/11 and restoring confidence in the NYC film industry.

2. Standing with Marty Scorsese alongside Elia Kazan for his Thalberg Oscar a few years ago. Deniro's decision took character, class and guts, and it won't be forgotten.

his best role was the one where he played that guy with that thing and he was involved with that other thing with the guys who showed him this thing and once he saw it he tried to get out of that one thing but those guys and their things wouldnt let him leave their thing since he ran their things and saw their thing and they knew if he told those other guys about their thing that he saw they would be in alot of trouble so the tried to kill him with that thing but he escaped and stole their thing and showed those other guys the thing and they stole it and gave him their thing and he took it and it was a bomb and it blew up.

I might catch flack for this, but I've always thought that his role in Godfather 2 was a bit overrated. He was good, but I don't think it compares to his acting in Taxi Driver or Raging Bull.

I'm gonna go with most of Nature Boy's pics, but for worst I'm going with a movie called Sam's Song. I bought it in a used book store years ago because it had De Niro on the cover. Oops! He was killed in the first scene and the rest of the movie was the worst piece of of cockroach shit ever put on film. Of course I bought it for $3 and sold it on half.com for $12 so I can't complain.

I like almost every role DeNiro's ever done, but his portrayal of Jake LaMotta in "Raging Bull" really blew me away. What a movie, and what an actor.

The Deer Hunter, that movie was great and #Walked was excellent also(im sorry though this is prior to his cowbell addiction)

although...Casino was also a very good movie
