Phone Screeners Appreciation Thread

I was just hinking about how hard that job has to be.

They get hundreds of calls a night, and have to weed out all the bad calls. They are partly responsible for the great calls to the show. I mean, Ron and Fez can take a bad call and make it good, but it starts with the screeners.

I've had some calls that didn't make it, and it was probably because I wasn't that funny. And that's the way it goes. It's a fast paced show, and I would have felt bad if I slowed the show down, so shame on me.

Now I know plenty of you like to run down the screeners because YOUR call didn't make it, but think about how tough a job it must be.

It seems like a thankless job, too. Billy puts a call thru and the person does something totally different when he's on the air and Billy gets reamed.

I answer phones from the public (that's us) as part of my job, it's hard as hell. People, in no specific order more often than not are mean or stupid or just don't give a rat's ass if they're abusive or not. An otherwise rational person becomes something else on the phone man, it's weird. Billy does an excellent job screening, most of the guys at the station do. Except for "that other guy who used to work there". His calls were just like him, BORING.

Phone Screeners are very under-rated! I am a phone-op at another NY station and it is something you have to be SO patient for.

Yea, last week I called in about 4 times, and the screener was really cool with me. I was on a cell, and I kept calling until I got to a good reception area. And when I finally got it, he put me right on the list of callers to take that night. It was really nice of him, and I appreciate the chance to get on to talk about my band Unhallowed. I think it must have been WonderBoy, because I think I know Staples voice. So thank you, wonder Boy. Keep up the good work!
