I never thought I would be speaking like an anarachist but that Dickhead, George W. Pubes, the guy who wasn't even elected to office, HAS SAID THAT THIS NATION'S POWERS ARE DERIVED FROM GOD. That's right fellow RandF fans. Sometime between the time of the ruling declaring "under god" unconstitutional and the time of this post, THE PRESIDENT SAID THAT SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF "THIS NATION'S POWERS ARE DERIVED FROM GOD." THAT WOULD MEAN THAT THE PRESIDENT IS A GOD-APPOINTED KING! A GOD-APPOINTED KING! DID I EVEN SAY THAT? THIS IS BULLSHIT. NOWHERE IN THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OR THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION DOES IT SAY THAT OUR NATION'S POWERS ARE DERIVED FROM GOD BUT IT SAYS THAT THE NATION'S POWERS ARE DERIVED FROM THE PEOPLE. THIS BULLSHIT CAN NOT BE TOLERATED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. YET NOBODY IS SAYING ANYTHING BUT ME! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU HISTORIANS HUH? TELL ME I'M WRONG! C'MON, TELL ME I'M FUCKING WRONG AND THAT I'M FUCKING CRAZY! GO ON! Where did you read/hear/see that?

I found the following article on cnn.com:

"CALGARY, Alberta (CNN) -- President Bush said Thursday that the United States "is a nation that values our relationship with the Almighty" and said the judges that ruled that voluntary recitals of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools is unconstitutional are "out of step with the traditions and history of our country."

Bush delivered his reaction during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin before Thursday's official G-8 session in the western Canadian Rockies. Putin is an atheist, but is credited by the U.S. administration for allowing religious freedoms across Russia.

Bush said the ruling from a panel with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California ignored the fact that the Declaration of Independence acknowledged "we receive our rights from God." He said the court's decision was proof of the need for "common-sense judges" who "understand we derive our rights from God."

Bush said that when he visited Arizona to see families displaced by wildfires he was searching for something comforting to say and said he settled on telling them "there is a God who loves them. ... I believe that is the case."
The Justice Department is reviewing its options, and officials traveling with Bush said one likely path is to file a brief supporting the expected appeal of the ruling."

That article is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. The president is saying that religion is part of our history. That is bullshit. If the president it standing by this statement then he is saying that "god was with us during the Revolutionary War" and that "He is with us now." The last time that I read the Declaration of Independence, I don't recall there being any mention of a god. If the president continues to make these statements, then to him, this is not a war on Terrorism but a war on Islam.

I personally hate Islam and all other forms of Religion, but if you're blind to the fact that most people believe in a God and that saying GOD means all god-fearing people, not just Christians, then you are fooling yourself.

I REALLY dislike religion, and DON'T want the governmemnt imposing religion on me, but there are a lot more important things right now. BUt a most people in our country DO believe in a God, and they have for awhile.

So you are crazy. I don't want ANY religion, but I think bush was just recognizing that most people throughout histoy have believed in some religion.

The pilgrims came to the New World because they were being persecuted by the Catholics. Irish Protestants have moved here because they are being persecuted by Catholics. Hindu's have come here to escape persucation from Islam and Vice versa. In the Age of Exploration, the Spanish and Portuguese went on Voyages for "Riches, Fame and God." Lutherans, avoiding more persectution from Catholics during the reformation moved to the "new world" so they could follow thier religion freely. Methodism was looked down up by European Goverments during the Industrial Revolution, so methodists went to the then USA for religious sanctuary.

People have come to this country soley just to practice whatever religion they want, Wicca (withcraft) is a religion here, that was not allowed in Europe.

the term under god could be unconsititutional, but you have to remeber that People came here for freedom of religion.

Im not on either side of this arguement, because I think that it is pointless and stupid, escpecially after the 11th, we should all have more love for the USA than even, whether it be Nationalist or Patriotic.

I hope my little history lesson helped clear things up and ill end with this. A Majority of the people living in the US today, came just so they could practice what ever religion they want.

and the declaration of independance, is only us declaring independance from the British

LOOK! Did you read the second post in this thread? Bush or Pubes as I call him, was saying that religion was an important factor in our nation's history when I'm sure other americans are convinced that he is imposing HIS religion on us. This is illegal as stated in the constitution.

The last time that I read the Declaration of Independence, I don't recall there being any mention of a god.

Now, you claimed there was no mention of "a god":

As for your other point, I don't think that Bush was "imposing his religion on us". He chose his words carefully:
