Lunar Eclipse??? [Archive] - RonFez.net Messageboard

I just got home from the bar, and i looked up at the sky, expecting the moon to be full, or near full. What i saw instead was a 3/4 regular moon, and 1/4 of an orange-brown shadowy moon. i didn't know that there was supposed to be a partial eclipse tonight, can someone else confirm this for me.

this gets weirder . . . the full moon was on tuesday (i think) a lunar eclipse can only happen on a full moon. There for i should have only been able to see the 3/4 of the moon. Just the fact that the last quarter was visible at all was an anomally in itself

i don't think there can be a partial eclipse of the moon.
there are two types of lunar eclipses, umbral and penumbral.
umbral eclipses are when the moon is in the darkest part of the earth's shadow, and penumbral eclipses are when the moon is in the lighter part of the earth's shadow. unless you have a telescope you really can't tell if it's penumbral eclipse. you may have seen an eclipse in process...
