I just got a hold of the FOOD Network special from last night and watched it. It was the return battle of Iron Chef Morimoto vs. Food Nation's Bobby Flay, this time in Japan. Morimoto beat Flay in the first battle in the US. He wanted a little retribution so he challenged Morimoto for a rematch in his hometown. The secret ingredient for this battle was native lobster.
The US was well represented (Flay's lovely girlfriend was in attendance) and even were loud and obnoxious, shouting USA, USA and did the "Na, na, na, na... hey, hey... goodbye." At one point as Bobby Flay was finished with his dishes he gets up on his cooking field and starts raising the roof in an obvious attempt to show up his opponent like he won (the same thing he did in the first battle). It seemed like it was in bad taste and Morimoto was definitely not pleased by his actions. During the cook-off, he also began complaining that his appliances were tampered and it would make the battle unfair. It was just a sad display of competition.
By looking at the menu of the two competitors, Morimoto was more creative in presentation, did not use soy sauce in any of his dishes and even went against tradition and fried sushi! It was an unbelievable display. As the master's of ceremony was going to say who won he implied that they double checked the votes unlike another election (Bush-Gore Florida runoff) and the winner turned out to be BOBBY FLAY!
"WTF!" I screamed at the television. Was it done to make the battle 1-1 and rigged like a Tyson fight so there will be a final battle in a impartial arena?
I figured it was shown on the Fourth of July and that the US must have won but for those who saw it, do you agree with the decision? Is this the United State's minor victory against the Japanese for the reoccurring loss in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest?
Don't get me wrong, I love America, our dedicated fans and ther desire... but was this right?
