View Full Version : Best Driving Music

Okay, the week and a half of
tapes on WNEW has turned me
away from General Discussion
temporarily, as well as the radio.
Thus, occupying much of my
listening time with music. So in
the meantime... everyone, tell me
what you think is the best damn
music/song/band/album to blast
in your car while driving? Now,
I'm not talking "cruising" music,
because cruising is retarded and
degenerating, but just the music
you like to play when your
zooming down that highway at a
whopping 55 MPH. I've noticed
that the same old song listened
to in your room while you're
surfing the web can be given
entirely new life if listened to
while driving. So, enough of my
incessant rambling... What music
puts you in the bad-ass zone?
What is the best F'n hit-the-road
music?

Any David Lee Roth-era Van Halen.
On a recent trip to CT I listened to Radiohead's "OK Computer" -- it made the trip fly by.

OK Computer is the shit, but it
being from Radiohead, it doesn't
have that good fast-paced beat
that you need when driving.
"SWING and a miss, and he
looked like a dildo..."
True but it was a good opportunity to really LISTEN to the album. I wish I had discovered it sooner.

It depends. If its a drive in the countryI either play some jazz like coltrane, monk, ahmad jamal, sonny rollins, some rat pack era stuff like Sinatra, Martin, Bennet, or some 70's soul like Cutris Mayfield, Issac Hayes, Al Green.
Crusin down the thruway I'll go with some good punk like Bad Religion or Dropkick Murphys. Or maybe some Metallica or Antrhrax. Something fast. Crusin through the city, its all hip hop. Some good Mos Def or Common, something like that.

Rap/Hip Hop first of all because it keeps me up and makes my drive go faster and I can dance in my car and have people laugh at me. Lately I've been jammin Eminem alot, but also Big Tymers, Lil Wayne, 8 Ball, Red Man, Dre or Snoop and ALOT of Houston rap.
But I also get in my rock moods and I usually listen to the mix LuLu made me with Korn/Perfect Circle/Godsmack and all that good stuff.

I, like Droopy, do not have a driver's license. Fortunately, this puts me in the enviable position of Permanent Road Trip DJ. And, since everything is at least a half-hour drive from our house, I've plenty of experience and lots of favorites, including but not limited to:

'So Much For the Afterglow' by Everclear (just the single, not the album)

This delicious Duran Duran promo my hubby got when he managed the now-defunct Waves Music, featuring all their best tracks

The Edge of Seventeen soundtrack

Possum Dixon's self-titled debut

Kara's Flowers - The Fourth World

And that Geggy Tah song that Pootertoot so despises, 'Whoever You Are' - you may have recently heard it on a Mercedes commercial. I like to sing it real loud to piss him off. :P

~ALL I WANNA DO IS TO THANK YOU, EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE. YOU LET ME CHANGE LANES WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN MY CAR~

lucinda williams is excellent!!! that song "can't let go" is one of the best rockin blues I've heard in a long time. and "Drunken angel" is a tribute to one of my favs, Townes van zant. the album is also co-produced by steve earle, whom I rave about far too much (because he is god!!!), and his production company, the twang trust. He also sings back up and plays on a few songs.

OK, the best music to listen to when u drive is definately rave music or techno. Its like fast pace with a kool beat. I love to drive with it. My fave is "dj sammy" you're my star... Happy hardcore isnt that bad either. But one problem with listenin to rave/techo is that its only good if u make a mix tape/cd.

I wa si nthe car with my cousin and the soung "Get Out the Way" by ludacris and it's the ultimate road rage music. It makes you feel like the biggest dog on the streets.
You just feel like you could run over people and other drivers like you're in GTA3

I've recently noticed that the
Beatie Boys - Ill Communication is
great for driving TO wherever
you're going and The Strokes - Is
This It is great for driving HOME
from wherever you went. The
Beastie Boys has great
momentum for when you know
you're leaving for a good night of
fun, and The Strokes bring it
down to a nice relaxed rock feel
for the ride back.

There's EuroDance, Trance, techno, ,Progressive,Hardcore, Jungle, Uk Hard House, Nu Nrg, Makina, Jumper... and Many more to choose from.
P.S(DroopyGirl i recommend listening to Paul Oakenfol- Southern Sun(Dj Tiesto Remix) and Dj Tiesto- Lethal Industry)
