every year i get more and more and they start off tiny and get bigger and bigger.. now my mom is absolutely covered in there to the point where from afar she always looks tan...

why do we get them?
are they hereditary?
and is there a way to stop them!!!???

INKGRRL - Freckles are indeed genetic. They are a dominant trait and thus if the gene is there it's always expressed.

Of course the environment contributes to freckling as well. In people with the gene, exposure to the suns ultraviolet radiation induces the production of freckles by causing the melanocytes to produce melanin.

so wait, Horde King, you cant get them laser removed? Please dont say that. I had planned to do that in Sept. I have waaay too many freckles and I keep getting more and more, from the sun I thought. My mom has some freckels but not many so I didnt think it was genetic. I remember reading somewhere that you can have them removed..So thats untrue? I HATE MY FRECKELS!

Why would you want to get your freckles lasered off? Why do you hate them?

If you had some removed, they are likely to reappear with further exposure to the sun.

One thing to consider though is that it's important to distinguish b/w freckles and moles. Freckles aren't dangerous but moles can be indicative of skin cancer. The warning signs to look for are growth in size or shape of a mole and irregular shapes. If you have those get tehm checked out by a dermatologist.
