other than peddling their religion door to door, you can be descrbing many religions, and changing their views with the times is cetainly better than clinging to ancient view that have no place in modern society.

and who are you to say that another person's spiritual beliefs are wrong anyway? let them belive what they want, why should you care?

When I say that they chainge their beliefs..I am referring to the fact that they believe that the apocolypse will come on a certain date...and then when it doesn't happen...they just change the date...How lame is that?

There is a specific incident that occured in recent past that has caused the start of my rant...I am not just blatantly putting down this religion for no good reason. They are selfish and disturbed people...and I will tell you why...

On September 11th...when thousands of people were forced to flee Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge...Dusty...covered in dirt...coughing...some injured...The Central Church of the Jehovah's witnesses is located just directly next to the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side...And they refused to open their doors for any assistance of any kind. For the fear that the Apocolypse had arrived...HOW FUCKIN STUPID IS THAT SHIT....selfish if you ask me. They figured that the people that are not in their religion are screwed anyway...So why should they help them. I have this fact on very good authority... Of course I believe that most organized religion is rediculous to begin with...But the actions taken by this particular group is enough to get me outraged...slightly...hehe.

"Indeed a wonderful
privilege! This authority that
anointed conquerors receive at
their resurrection is a sharing
with Jesus in wielding the "iron
rod" of destruction against the
rebellious nations at
Armageddon. At best, the nuclear
firepower of those nations will
sputter like a wet firecracker
when Christ dashes his enemies
to pieces as he would vessels of
clay.-Psalm 2:8, 9; Revelation 16:
14,16; 19:11-13, 15."

I love how religous nuts turn
passages of the bible around,
misquote, or simply lie.

what they claim to be quoting is:
Ask of me, and I shall give [thee]
the heathen [for] thine
inheritance, and the uttermost
parts of the earth [for] thy
possession. Thou shalt break
them with a rod of iron; thou
shalt dash them in pieces like a
potter's vessel.

that can't be a direct translation.
the word nuclear doesn't appear
in the bible, nor is it a part of
hebrew,greek, or latin.

It just seems to be more of "Cult" religion than any other mainstream religion that I know of.
I guess the point of this thread was to warn people of this religion...That's all.
Unlike most other religions, Jehovah's teach their followers not to socialize with non-believers...
I am unaware of any other religions that teach this...My girlfriend is Catholic and is accepting of all people...So...I guess that's where it all stems from...
I do not follow any kind of organized religion and find it interesting that people can act the way that the Jehovah's do in a time such as these.
I must say...That the Watchtower is full of cool illustrations...Next time I get one I think I will scan some of them and show you what crafty and conniving people they are.:)

Unitarians believe that anyone who truly follows their own dogma (Whatever it may be) will be saved. (I think Jews have a similar belief, but I'm not sure.)

Catholics (and most Christian denominations) believe that anyone who does not fully understand Christianity and lives a moral life balanced between introvert and extrovert will be saved.

Hindus believe that everyone has karma no matter his or her religion. All will be judged on how they treat others.

So Hordeking, does that satisfy you as separate from Jehova's Witnesses in the arena of "outside religions"?

every religeon is the same. i belive to a certain
extent that most, if not all, religeons belive in the
same god. he just has different names. basically i
am a very reformed protestant, and i'm not preachy
at all. i know what i belive, if people ask i tell them,
normally to their surprise. i also correct people who
are incorrect in statement, not belife. everyone is a
hindu, and honestly, i'm pretty sure god wont blame
u for worshiping him as a christian, a jew or a
agnostic. as long as u try to be thankful for what u
have, do what u can for others and enjoy your
life..........

Had a couple of these show up at my door today. I usually wouldn't even open the door to strangers but a damn wreath was blocking the peephole. Really awkward because I don't like to be rude to anyone and I'm not religious so when they asked their "Are you saved" question I couldn't strongly announce my faith and just stood there saying "uh...". But my husband was home in the background and yelled "We're Catholic!" so they backed off (though they did ask if they could leave their Watchtower literature. I said no.) I don't know whether to be insulted by people like this (how dare they push their religion) or touched (how sweet they care about my soul). Really, I'd rather just avoid it completely.

A few years ago I sort of dated a Witness. Everything that I'm hearing here seems to be a bit extreme. I have no religious beliefs at all so I see all religion as superstition but the worst thing i can say about them is that they are too suspicious of other people. The whole door to door thing serves two purposes for them. One--It fulfills their responsibility to inform others of their beliefs and 2----They want to have the door slammed in their faces because it reaffirms the idea that they are cast aside from society. They go through training on how to react to angry residents. Overall they are very nice people and harmless.

Just open the door and when they ask you to take their literature just say "no thanks". Its way too easy to yell things at them. Just be cool with them.

This guy's friend broke up with his girlfriend of about 2 or 3 years because she wouldn't convert.. I get that it's not going to work if you have two very different basic belief systems, but it's like i've turned invisible once they start talking. I know people will naturally congregate towards their own, but I'm of the belief you form opinions on people based on how they conduct themselves as a person. Once my co-worker finds out he's talking with a fellow "brother", they immediately can do no wrong in his eyes.

I said no thanks, but he said "It's just a message of spirituality; I think you might enjoy it."

I told him "I like the message but don't care much for the messengers."

I have a half sister, 14 years older than I am who is a JW.

Yes, they are definitely a cult. Yes they do change/adapt their tenets to deflect any conflicts. And they always maintain intimate contact with only other JW's. Everyone else is part of the "earthly world" and to be dismissed as not part of their gratification and reward. Everyone else is "outside" and not to be trusted.

They did rewrite the Christian bible to adapt to their beliefs (whoever "they" is or are), and the Watchtower that they peddle door to door comes from some central publisher clearing house.

The ones that I have met seem sincere in their beliefs, though misguided in my opinion. I live in Tennessee and I am in the midst of a whole cast of characters much like Shirley Phelps Roeper. She is a generic publicity stunt of a lot of people that I seen more often than I like. Believe me, there are a lot of her out there, and close to where I live. Religous extremism and bible interpretaion for sure.

One of the best laughs I had was on an early morning fishing trip while a Baptism was going on in a river we went to fish at. Brother in law (JW) chuckles and nods his head. I ask him what is funny. He says these poor folks are misguided. I ask why. "Because they are victims of false religion"

me "They are sinscere in what they are doing"
him "there are many false gods"

I have not spoken with her for around 6 years. I have called her but due to global warefare not being part of "their world" and my familys military participation I expect I may never hear from her again. Too bad.

On a lighter note, she used to send an Elvis Impersinator JW to my work to infiltrate my lunch and convert me. It was funny coming back and having the receptionist tell me "Elvis just missed you"

At this point in my life I have the Jehovah's Witnesses praying for me, born again christians praying for me, catholics praying for me, jews praying for me, and muslims praying for me. If it's going up there someone has got to be hearing it with those odds. Except for Vishnu. Hmm...

irregardless
One entry found.

Main Entry:
ir·re·gard·less Listen to the pronunciation of irregardless
Pronunciation:
\ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\
Function:
adverb
Etymology:
probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date:
circa 1912

nonstandard : regardless

usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.
