I've never really had any
experience like what Billy's
talking about. Aside from an
annoying employee at
McDonald's in Fl. who was both a
janitor and preacher.

Can anyone relate to Billy?

I went through 12 years of catholic school, which is the best way to entirely turn a person against religion.

I like my women the way I like my coffee, in a plastic cup.

Only once, but he bribed me with a 12 pack of Schaefer and promises of an afterworld that is beautiful. But then he stole my wallet and ran off with some roly poly little bat faced girl.

In 1997, I had a religious nut go nuts on me because I was wearing an "Austin 3:16" shirt. So I gave her a stunner.

Don't fuck with a Jedi Master, son.

Hmmmm, interesting. A paradox of sorts. I quote The Bloodhound Gang - "If I don't belive in myself, would it be blasphemy?"

That wasn't Jesus. That was your high school custodian. You know the one I'm talking about-- the one with the gimp leg.

I've had my experiences with Born Again Christains and, the sad thing is, I can all too well relate to Billy. My sister became "born again" when she was 16. I was 8. She was my babysitter so I got dragged to ALL the revival meetings. It's ALL a crock of shit!

No 8 year old should own 15 copies of the New Testament.

Organized religion sucks!

I have never claimed to be a saint.

I love Jesus Christ. I do believe in his healing power. I have know relief from pain through his name.

There is nothing wrong with believing in the love ethic.

'Nuff said!

"i told her i was lost, and she told me all about the Pentacost" --Paul Simon "Duncan"

i've never had a problem with anyone of another religion. I always keep an open mind toward what they have to say, and i let them say it. Ususally they realize that even though i'm not of their faith, I'm of very strong conviction and a good person so after 15 minutes or so they wish me well and leave. I honestly like talking to them. I've always enjoyed a good theological debate.

try to see things from there pov, they really believe that your soul is in danger. all you have to prove (gently) is that it isn't

I have accepted that I alone am responsible for my destiny and that my actions are my own.

I have absolved all others, whether real or make believe of responsibility for my actions.

I have accepted that without intelligence and effort there can be no reward.

I have accepted that bad things happen to good people.

have accepted the laws of cause and effect.

I have accepted that the universe doesn't give a shit about me or anyone else.

I have accepted that it is the height of arrogance to believe our little species significant enough to warrant the formation of an infinite universe.

I have accepted that occasional reason and brief rationality are the heighest of human achievements.

Most of all, I have accepted that all my successes, all my failures, all my good qualites and bad are mine becasue I chose to make them so.

I have accepted that by rejecting religion I have depreived myself of a sense of comfort that others are able to use and shape to their purpose.

I have accepted that I am perfectly happy letting people who want to believe continue to do so, so long as they don't impose their will on me or anyone else. Unfortunately, human history has shown this to be impossible to date.

Comments, anyone?

So why whenever someone posts something about God, even something as innocuous as 'thank God for snowballs', or words to that effect, do you reply to the post with a snide comment about the non-existence of God and the person's foolishness for following such an antiquated and self-delusional philosophy?

BLAKJEZIS - As you know I'm atheist who sees religious belief as psychosis.

I don't tell religious people to stop believing (although I'm constantly told that they'll pray for my soul, etc). I find religion a source of amusement, but if someone wants to believe and limit their belief to themselves go right ahead.

Regarding "thank God for snowballs" I was talking to ROOSTER at the time, and the back and forth was intended to be funny. We certainly thought it was.
Witness the follow up and the charge comments.
